And who decides which context to go with? What if I believe that the context should be something else? What if I believe that the word "world" is being used the same in Matthew 24 and Colossians 1?

Well, Scripture has only one interpretation...many applications but one interpretation.
I would agree that any given scripture has one meaning but many applications. God's teachings to man.
There are many forms and structures of interpretation. Interpretation is what we humans do in trying to understand and apply scripture.
No. "world" can have various meanings depending on the context.

Ahhhh, the Greek game. It's up to man to determine which definition to go with. Whatever fits that individual's system of theology. I'd rather not play that game. I don't want to be the final authority of what God has said.
However, if Matthew 24:14 had already been fulfilled at the time Paul was writing, then the Second Coming of Christ would already have been an accomplished fact. But since it is yet future, it should be obvious that the "world" to which Paul referred was not the "world" of which Christ spoke. The Gospel is yet to be preach in all the world. Then cometh the end.

Yes, I know, Paul preached the kingdom of God, the spiritual kingdom within man. The gospel of the kingdom has to do with the kingdom of heaven, the promised kingdom of the Jews. Paul did not preach the gospel of the kingdom. Different terms, different meanings.
