The Bible also says...fear God.

We can walk with God without fear. But, understand the words...when we are walking with Him we are obedient. When we are in step with His requirements...we have no fear.
I'm content to allow mysteries to remain. Predictably, I will learn something that will alter my frame of reference.

Perhaps you have augmented on the meaning of Katia's post, but it does not change the post being right on the money. God bless..

What i would like to know is why very few christians do not fear God in this:

Every word of God is flawless;
He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.
Do not add to His words,
lest He rebuke you and prove you a liar.
Proverbs 30

I testify to everyone who hears the words of prophecy in this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and the holy city, which are described in this book.
Revelatipn 22: 18-19
You're the first person in the BDF that I've seen who recognized the connection between the Rev 22 account and the Proverbs account of the SAME principle about not adding to God's word. It's also stated in Deuteronomy(?) but I don't remember the exact wording to look it up right now. My apologies for not answering further.

Thanks for posting,

I had a rather extreme background, so the idea of fearing God and not being terrified is incongruent. I learned fear, even terror very early. However, God has been so kind and gracious to me, perhaps even doting on me. I try very hard to please God. At one very low point in life, I can remember being on my knees and weeping and saying "I am sorry but I can not be Job for you. I am too weak."

It seems He dotes on most of us after we realize how He loves us and we give Him the Glory for this for He, Himself, IS Love.

In my dotage, I am comfortable and have enough. I adore God and wish to see him soon. I am mostly alone aside from a Daughter that visits infrequently. One must spend their time in God.

My prayer is to always be with Him, now and forever, praising Him and giving Him all glory. Of course I fall short of this, but He continues to, as you have said, dote. He is wonderful, amen.

If you literally came into the presence of God you would faint (die), because He is so powerful and so glorious, and every other powerful thing.

To come near to God in understanding you can't help but fear Him because you realise how powerful He is. The good thing is that you also realise that He is love and wants to save us. It is like a reverence and respect for Him.

Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Rev_14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

Moses encountered God behind a burning bush. If you read carefully, you find that God came to be in a tent and when moses went in to talk to him, his hair turned white and his face glowed. He had to wear a cloth on his face to not frighten the people.

Mysteries?.....concerning what?
There are no mysteries concerning God. That is he reason I responded the way I did because I took your first post to suggest while walking with God you were fearful of an inadequacy....of some type. No reason to be if we are right with God and His commandments.

I'm not a Biblical linguist. Perhaps here the word fear might be closer to the words In Awe? There are 450 English language translations of which I have used about 6. The way I feel about God, my Heavenly Father, is not the same as the way I felt about my brutal, abusive stepfather.
Yes and no...
There are issues with translation with the Hebrew word and concept of "fear" into English...
"Awe" is a good one...so is "respect" and "reverence" . There's a lot more that can be said but not in a single word. And translators won't go beyond a single word translation even though it isn't equivalent.

And since you haven't exactly had a healthy parent/child relationship it's difficult for you to understand the meaning. I have watched my wife (and her mother and sister) roll her eyes at her father when he begins yelling and hollering...it's hilarious to see. He is thundering angry but they are all laughing at him. This isn't exactly what the scriptures are talking about either except for you not to do this.

This make sense?

God is good... God is always good.... God is always so busy being good he doesn't have time to be bad.

Scripture cannot lie.

Sola Scriptura, where idols are crushed to dust, where religion dies, where men come ALIVE and
where God is Glorified.

Do you think this is coincidence that these commands are given in order to enter the Promised Land............

Hear now, O Israel, the statutes and ordinances I am teaching you to follow, so that you may live and may enter and take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you.
You must not add to or subtract from what I command you, so that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God that I am giving you. Deuteronomy 4:3

Scripture cannot lie.

Deuteronomy 4: 1-2 leads us to Proverbs 30: 5-6 leads us to John 1:1 leads us to John 17:17 leads us to Revelation 22:18-19

Scripture cannot lie.

My feelings and relationship with God is complicated but very often the words in the Bible don't cover it. And, I have experienced church going people who thirst for the blood of the sinner, having no idea that God alone does the judging and I feel the sole function of the believer is to love and assist in healing the broken.

AMEN - You are special to the Lord - thank you

My fear of God is this: "He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him" - Proverbs 30: 5

Every word of God is tested;
He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.
Do not add to His words
Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.

Notice the contrast God declares here. His reason for the 'fear of God' is so that we can take refuge and be protected by Him.

If we were terrified of God (this is the lie that satan delivered to Eve in the Garden) , then we act on our own because we are afraid to trust Him at His Word.

The Muslims have a word that I love. Mashallah. Thank you for your kind words.

The Lord decides on whether we live with Him in Eternity or whether we die of our sins. I should think that would make every man fear the Lord.

The Lord loves us, everyone, and is there to forgive any of our sins. I should think that would bring about absolute trust in the Lord. Trust enough to follow however the Lord directs.

Both fear and trust are based on truths, can't both be accepted as true?
