Think beyond lust.... :))

Will you marry somebody just to satisfy your lust? Definitely not!!!

Please read the whole chapter 1 corinthians 7:1-8

Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment. For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
I was not trying to say it is okay to fornicate but I don't think that that scripture is applicable to people who are not in relationships because they cannot use it. They are unlikely to be fornicating with others as well as unlikely to have someone to marry because they are not dating anyone. Only people who are in relationships but not yet married will consider this.

Ex. I am single and not dating anyone currently. If some one told me "it is better to marry than to burn" then I'd be like "okay, that's nice" because I have no one to burn with or marry, if that makes any sense.

And as far as lust goes that is what the thread is about. Masturbation, so getting married really has nothing to do with it anyway.

Where in the Bible does it say God wants us to sin just so we can be happy?

Masturbation is a sin, and God does not want anyone to sin. If you can't control your lust, Paul gave you the solution: get married. Paul did not say "If you are burning up with lust, masturbate." He said to find you a spouse. Masturbation is a sin because it is all about self, about pleasing your flesh. It's a perversion of what God intended to be between a man and woman.

If you are so controlled by your lust that you can't be happy unless you masturbate, then you have a serious problem. Repent and get right with God.
When arrogance in God's word takes over common sense. What a shame. Clearly it's not something to be donE in a addictive way. But think about this god made your nature and your body he also made men attracted to boobs and butts. Clearly they are assets use to attract men. Like muscles for women. Quit demonizing what is gods. So foolish and obtaining righteousness by telling others to get it together. Every humans trying their best. Let god be god and how about showing love instead of cultivating condemnation. God was disgusted more by pharisees than something of this nature. And it's not clear in scripture. It wouldn't be that hard to say not too touch yourself. You are allowed to check out women/men. God made us with personalised eyes and hair all the way too our toes. People try to demonize what is gods all the time while trying to please him.. haha sorcery=pharmacy. U ever take advil? You token a spell. Open your mind..more importantly your heart too gods children's processes. Do u want christians in bond age or in personalised freedom in jesus? Good day buddy.. also some people have serious conditions. God knows our hearts and he is infinity greater than his own word. God is god. U are no more clean than the next

Your answer hit the nail on the head. It is a sin. Before my husband and I started our walk with Christ he did do it on occasion and I know I surely did. But since then we have both stopped since we realized it takes away from our attraction to one another in our marriage bed.

NO. Masturbation is wrong and it's a sin. You need to set yourself free from that evil spirit which is causing you to do that. Command it to leave you in the NAME OF JESUS.

I highly doubt God cares whether you masturbate or not. Masturbation isn't sex. Pleasure for pleasure's sake isn't a sin. I don't know why people tend to focus on sexuality more than every other aspect of life and religion, but barring you aren't doing anything God did say is sinful, like lusting after someone in the way the Bible forbids, masturbating is just a ubiquitous, healthy bodily function. And I'd go so far as to say repressing the urge is a lot more harmful because it can lead to thoughts and actions that truly are sinful and harmful to others as well as yourself.

Masturbation is basically having sex with yourself, because you're sexually stimulating yourself by masturbating.

Is it a sin? Yes. Should it be? No. I know this Muslim boy who struggles with this very thing. He shared with me that he masturbated for the first time in a long, long time and he felt so ashamed afterward. He could'nt take the guilt. He prayed for hours. I just felt really bad for him. It doesnt really seem like a smart thing not to do. For boys, a lack of sexual release can cause testicular cancer and other problems. Medically, it's considered healthy. And that's only physically speaking. There are a number of benefits psychologically. Repression is never good. It can only lead to social akwardness, and if someone is already unstable, I believe it could accidentally even lead to rape. It's not that they even necessarily mean to. Boys can be driven crazy by that kind of thing. So can girls. And scientifically there is absolutely NO other use for the clitoris. No other use than for sexual stimulation. That tell's mean that God made us have one for a reason...to use it! I think people should enjoy themselves and make themselves happy. God want's you to be happy. It makes you sleep better when you masturbate. It burns calories. It feels wonderful. Why would that be wrong? There is not one negative thing that can come from it. It's certainly safer than sex. You can't catch any STDs. You can't get pregnant. It makes you more relaxed and no longer restless. It's seriously like all good things. How is that bad?

Masturbation avoidance does NOT cause cancer- total pseudoscience babble.

Avoidance does NOT make Men sex crazed rapists- total non factual statement.

Let me tell you something about indulging in sexual gratification via pornography:

More masturbation does NOT reduce your interest in sex. Quite the opposite. Think of it like putting more wood in the fire. What it does is train your nervous system and brain to act on sexual imagery and to objectify women sexually. It means you're more likely to be sexually aroused by anything at all: a bumpy bus ride, a close fitting pair of trousers, friction or pressure, etc.

Avoidance makes you less sensitive and less likely to get inappropriate erections as the sexual circuitry is not in regular use.

So NO, indulging in Sin does not make it easier to resist anymore than injecting heroine makes it easier not to be a slave to heroine.

When you abstain (meaning not masturbating, having sex, or allowing thoughts to dwell on sex) after the initial few weeks urges decline and it becomes easier. Clearly, not having sex but masturbating at will turn you into a sex addict so your habits at home and your thoughts are the deciding factor in whether or not you become consumed by it.

As for the post about the function of the clit being masturbation that is also wishful thinking. Stimulatory organs are involved in making reproduction pleasurable. The fact that animals like to stimulate themselves without sex because it feels good says nothing about biological function.

When you engage in sexual gratification you quench the Holy Spirit. So, you can talk about what feels good but you're making a choice between having the Spirit strongly inside you Vs indulging your flesh. There is no halfway house, if you feel the spirit with you, you will certainly feel it less if you do such things so choose the Joy of the Lord Vs stimulating your nerve endings but do not be confused or fool yourself about the rightness of masturbation outside of a relationship. Stimulation by flesh is not the same act or intent as stimulation by Love.

A long and opinionated reply but, I joined the site just to respond.

The thread is old is it? So is the Bible yet here everyone is to discuss what's already been discussed throughout history 😄

This thread is prominent in Google search under Bible, prayer and temptation. If you don't want replies it would be wise to remove it from Google search or close it to replies.

What would the alternative be? Create a new thread to respond to an old post? It sounds better to have content under one roof and this is clearly an important issue which doesn't get "too old".

My 2 pennies. ✌️😎

I really want to, but I don't want to make him angry. Also, if he can see everthing, that means he sees me when I do it. So, it's like he's frowning at me.

Help?
It is just a physical function that both boys and girls do. It has nothing to do with your spirituality. Don't engage in viewing lewd pictures and staring lustfully at others, but some is just natural.

I'm just waiting for the attacks. Bring it.

if he is frowning at you when you do it, that must mean it isn't helpful for you to do it?

If one has the Holy Spirit dwelling inside him, then the spirit can be grieved (Ephesians 4:30) and quenched (1 Thessalonians 5:19). To grieve the Spirit is when we behave in a sinful manner, whether in thought or deed. To quench the spirit is to suppress the Holy Spirt's desires and let our natural desires take over. It's the natural spirit vs the indwelling Holy Spirit. So how you use your natural desires or how you let them use you does have an effect on us spiritually. It can effect our conscience, mood, and emotions. Meaning it can lift your spirit up, or bring it down.

I think that this is a great question!
The problem with masturbation is that it is very self-centered. It's all about you. God does not want His children to be like that. Rather, He would have us to be loving and selfless, giving of ourselves to others. I have spoken with people who struggled with masturbation, and many of them say that it caused problems in their sexual life after they got married, because they were used to receiving everything rather than giving of themselves to their spouse. Also, most, if not all, people who masturbate say that the habit is fuelled purely by lust. God does not want us to lust. Rather, He would have us to be of a pure mind and 'flee youthful lusts'(2 Timothy 2:22).

I would suggest that you open up about your struggle to someone in your family or a older godly person in your local church. Exposing the sin will bring it out of the darkness, and that can be a powerful motivation to stop!

Read what the Bible has to say about sex and sexual lust.

Also, if you're into reading, (if you're a girl) I'd suggest that you read "Sex, Purity, and The Longings of a Girl's Heart" by Kristen Clark and Bethany Beal. These two also have a website and youtube channel called "Girl Defined".
If you're a guy, I'd suggest "Sex is Not the Problem (Lust Is)" by Joshua Harris.

I don't think there is a straightforward answer .
I think it's a very individual thing. We all need to try and progress to a more spiritual path rather than allowing our body to control us. Rather than blame or guilt, we should all focus on encouraging one another.
