You err in your understanding of sin being forgiven. Upon repentance, a sinner isn't just forgiven for the sin he just committed, or the sin he committed yesterday, or the sin he will commit tomorrow (because you will and if you deny it, you are liar). The sinner is forgiven, not just the sins. The sinner, upon repentance and being born again, is literally transferred from death to life and given the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of inheritance. Jesus didn't just die for sins, He died for sinners. I hope you really let that sink in.

Judas was never a man of faith, clearly. The dunking was and is of none effect without repentance.
Have you ever lacked understanding about something and had to pray about it until God revealed what it actually means?

You don't understand forgiveness and you are ignoring passages of Scripture regarding being born again and adopted into the family of God as His child. I hope that you seek to understand this because... Wow, it's powerful!;)

there are cults all over the place that do that very thing and then an 'angel' visits them and behold we have a new understanding and often enough a extra-biblical one at that plus some add on books to the Bible

listen....you mention prayer often enough, but your personal experience and or any answer you think you get, do NOT supercede God's word no matter how much you may think they do

you are not important enough and that goes for every one of us

2 words you need to get a grip on principles and not.
How do we go_____on_____ to _______ perfection?
Do we STAY at the principles ( beginning, start) NOT laying again the foundation!
In house building a foundation is a structure from something very strong that can hold a great weight. Then building upon that foundation,a tall tall building can be constructed.
We don't need to lay the foundation every fifth floor.
Jesus is the chief corner stone. The corner stone is the first stone set in a foundation.

Eph 2:19-22
Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

Sophie, have you not met people who say the same thing about your experience with the Holy Ghost at age 18?

I'm not blanket-approving people's experiences one way or the other. But I will point out this concerning yours. You said you were baptized in the spirit all by yourself and because you were willing to see God for who he is rather than how others say he is. Would you advise people to seek God like you did, or would you advise people against it?

God Himself decides how and when he baptizes someone with His Spirit. Your whole viewpoint is extremely self-centered. This life isn't about you, Kelby.

that's a running joke in the forum

get a sense of humor. it's really needed around here

and you spin and doctor the scriptures so...that is actually dangerous and not just a silly joke
It's one thing to reply with my actual comment and include your objection afterward. What I have a problem with is you modifying what I actually posted. Since you are not able to prove me wrong with scripture you resort to deceptively making others believe I agree with you. And to that I can say, I do not.

You have been proven wrong with Scripture time and time and time again? Yet, you seem to think you are doing the Lord's work. You're not, my friend. Not even close.

My main point is that the majority of believers reject what the bible says about water baptism; that obedience to it in the name of the Lord Jesus is when sins are remitted. Those who do believe the scripture means exactly what it says are labeled as deceived, and that's putting it nicely. According to Jesus in the beginning of Matthew chapter 7, the way of destruction is broad and the majority of humanity are going that way.
the Bible does not teach water regeneration. you present a false gospel. we are only saved by the work of Christ on the cross and through His blood shed for the remission of our sins.

Obedience is not optional. Jesus is the author of eternal salvation unto all them that OBEY him. (Heb. 5:9)
you disobey Jesus every time you tell others they are not saved until they are baptised in water. your comprehension of scripture regarding this doctrine is in error

I have a problem with you constantly modifying scripture to change it to your unbiblical presentations on water baptism

it is not only deceptive, but scripture would call you a false teacher.

you should be careful accusing others of what you do here on a consistent basis. I was obviously only joking but YOU? you are presenting a dangerous and false gospel.

Being proven wrong with scripture involves comparing apples to apples. And that has not been the case. Understanding the word requires accepting all of it. Rejecting scripture because it does not line up with one's personal belief system does not change the truth.

The scripture verses say what they say. To accept or reject them as truth is up to every human being.

Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 22:16
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

With the exception of these verses I guess:

Not at all. I've been baptized. However, I called on the name of the Lord before I was baptized. I was born again before I was baptized. I was forgiven before I was baptized.

Can water baptism wash away one's sin?

The concept of baptism washing away sin stems from Acts 22:16, TEV. “And now, why wait any longer? Get up and be baptized and have your sins washed away by calling on His name.”

Does this mean you can was away your sins through baptism? Let us look at Biblical evidence. How is baptism described in the Bible?

Romans 6:2-7, NIV. "We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don ’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."

Col 2:12: “Having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.”

Mark 16:16-17: “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”

Baptism represents a decision to believe in Jesus as our Saviour. Through baptism we publicly demonstrate that we believe in our salvation obtained through Jesus, who died for us and rose on the third day. Similarly we symbolically indicate that by accepting Jesus in our lives, we are experiencing a rebirth, our old self has died, we are a new creation through Jesus Christ.

Jesus made this clear when discussing the importance of baptism with a scholar named Nicodemus. John 3:3-8: “’In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.’

‘How can a man be born when he is old?’ Nicodemus asked. ‘Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!’

Jesus answered, ‘I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, `You must be born again.' The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.’" NIV

It is clear here that baptism doesn’t wash away sin, but is an outward declaration that we want to live with Jesus who is the only one who can forgive our sins. It cannot be intended that the external rite of baptism was sufficient to make you pure, but that it was an ordinance appointed by Jesus as a public expression of the washing away of sins, or of the purification of the heart.

Forgiveness of sins is obtained solely through faith in the Lord Jesus, Acts 10:43: ”All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name."

Baptism is the visible sign of this. Paul summarizes this beautifully in 1 Cor 6:11: “And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”

What a wonderful Saviour we do have! Would you like to accept Him in your life now? He can and will forgive you of your sins, no matter how horrible they are. He can transform your life from an ugly charcoal into a radiant butterfly. You can overcome your sins through our Lord and Saviour. Why wait any longer? He is waiting for you!

Since you disagree with what the following scriptures say. Mind sharing what they actually say?

So you disagree with what scripture clearly states.

Acts 2:38

Acts 22:16
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

I was pointing out that seeking God leads to God answering. Sometimes you have to do like Moses and get alone with God if you need him to guide you.

I thought about pointing you to read the scriptures when the holy ghost was poured out and received as Paul or Peter or John laid hands on them (which is oddly specific timing if it were entirely up to God) but you could be one of those who simply says "God's word in Acts doesn't apply to us today"....and what could I say to someone willing to throw out God's word as irrelevant.?

I know that last paragraph probably sounds snide but I'm not sure how to WORD that if a person just throws out parts of truth, the meaning of other passages gets subverted. YES, I realize you could think that refers to me, and in some ways I won't even argue because I KNOW that I don't have perfect understanding and it subverts my other understandings, etc... And the truth is that anyone who is subverted like that WON"T be able to get themselves out of it by reasoning (because their reasoning is flawed), which means they CANNOT lean on their own understanding. So the only thing that person can reliably do is go straight to Jesus and ASK GOD. (because any man, pastor, teacher, etc that they ask could be flawed too). I was just 'fortunate' enough to have been raised in a church with flawed doctrine so I had to learn to be led by God. If you'd rather trust your own thinking and your pastor as if neither could be blind or subverted, without asking God until he ANSWERS....well... I still don't know of any other more reliable source than God himself.

John 6:45 KJV
It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
John 6:65 KJV
And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
John 6:43-44 KJV
Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. [44] No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

All of those verses are saying that if you don't learn to get in your prayer closet and learn how to hear from God directly, you're going to miss Jesus.

Love in Jesus,
Kelby

well I guess you didn't read my post 556 since you did not respond to it so I am posting it again in response to your trying to evade dealing with scripture that contradicts your presentations AND I shortened it a bit so you have less to read. please deal with scripture that tells us that water baptism is not a part of salvation and is actually an ordinance to follow but it represents our lives in Christ

I have NEVER read where you deal with that.
