It is a contraction of epidemic preceded by the prefix, pan. Pandemic. A global epidemic.
no the game...what is is about. How do you play it. Do you just go round infecting as many people as you can or something.

hmm.... I think we are players in this right now, and I am not getting a lot of fun from it......
Now I hear the medical know it alls from the co-opted CDC are warning to look for a polio like illness to attack children this fall.

I agree on scrabble, that is fun. Also backgammon and chess. As for with kids, I found it to be a very good idea to play boardgames about travelling the worldmap in various games, to learn geography. I used to play one where you got 4 cards with cities you had to travel to first, to win the game. You moved around, got planetickets and boat tickets. It was called the europe game or around europe, something like that. It is old, 30 years ago. Also, the game about finding the lost diamond in africa. And the oldest game known to man is fun, do not remember the name. Moving some balls around, a bit like chess, checkers and backgammon. Very simple and complicated at the same time. I will try to find out the name.

is it sometimes called chinese checkers?
I assume you reply to me. No, not called chinese checkers. It is egyptian I was told, so a weird name which is why it is so hard to remember. I can ask the person I used to play it with a little later. He is at work right now. I want to play it again now. Hard to learn, easy to play when learned. Unpredictable and surprising twists, while being so very primitive and simple. The one who created it must have been very smart. I will post the name later if I gett an answer. Then we can perhaps play it online at some gamerooms like we can with backgammon.

Settlers of Cataan is an internationally common game...
Meaning that if you were to visit a family in a Slavic country you can play that game with them...if they spoke English.

Ticket to Ride is another good game for family night... something to do with another family...it's OK... about half luck and half strategy to win.

Pandemic is fun because you get to hire witch doctors to cure you...but don't expect a miracle cure from one of them. Most of the time they are inexpensive but highly ineffective.

none of those would appeal to as they are fantasy based, especially anything that would give place to witch drs.
Anyone else get that impression? Scrabble, chess, monopoly and such don'ty give me that impression.
Not claiming them to be "evil" , I would not get enjoyment from such.

No monopoly is evil becuase its all about the love of money!
Unless you think its about something else. I dont know what the point of it is.

Maybe it's just a fun activity to engage other adults in...
Maybe you "win" by simply sitting down to play with others... regardless of who wins the game.

But of course I'm probably all wrong in feeling that way.

If a person thinks it is about the love of money, then that may be a stumbling block for them, and it would be ok for the rest.

no the rules of that game is people only 'win' when they have the most money or everyone else is bankrupt.
evil I tell you.

If you win all the money with the intent to give it for the blessing of others , and the people you gain from are evil, it could be an act of God. Do we not have scripture that tells -
Proverbs 13:22
“A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.”
