Why do Christians believe in a place of torment called Hell?

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, but not the end of it

Hi, sorry to butt in, i'm new and want to try answering the original question. Basically not all Christians do believe in a place of torment called Hell. The word Hell has European pagan origins. The word is used in English Bibles as a translation of 4 different words; Hebrew Sheol translated into Greek as Hades- the abode of the dead which also has pagan origins. Tartarus- the Pit where Satan and his angels will be imprisoned, and Gehenna where Jesus said evil people's soul are destroyed after the Judgement ie, eternal non-existance.
Where is that prophecy in the Hebrew Bible, I don't remember it, please and thanks.
Jesus used parables to teach true things. Saying it is just a parable does not mean what Jesus taught was false.
Jesus' parables are short stories that teach a moral or spiritual lesson by analogy or similarity.

Jesus uses them to teach more profound Divine eternal matters by which non-Christians cannot comprehend. How about Lot and his family? God chose to save them only because no one else in Sodom and Gomorrah could be found who were righteous.
God has mercy upon whom he will have mercy. And upon those whom he does not have mercy?
The ten plagues of Egypt. Culminating in the death of all first born of Egypt.
To convince Pharaoh to let his people go? No.
Because as God told Moses before Moses headed out on his mission for I AM, God (I AM who sent Moses) hardened Pharaoh's heart before Moses arrival. Pharaoh could not let the people of I AM go.

God is so good to Israel,
to those whose hearts are pure.
2 But I almost slipped and lost my balance.
