Roman Catholic Christians who believe in purgatory interpret passages such as 2 Maccabees 12:41–46, 2 Timothy 1:18, Matthew 12:32, Luke 16:19–16:26, Luke 23:43, 1 Corinthians 3:11–3:15 and Hebrews 12:29

These links give the biblical case for purgatory. Take the time to check context for yourself. It is not something I believe.
But the topic is interesting.

Regarding Luke 16:19

"One day the beggar died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. And the rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham from afar, with Lazarus by his side."

If the Catholics would look at the verses 22-23, they would see that it is Hades that the spirit of the rich man went to, not Purgatory. In addition the rich man died in his sins and will always be in torment in flame. He and all the others with him in Hades are not there to be cleansed, but to be eternally punished because they died without faith. Hades is the place where the spirits of the unrighteous depart to at the time of death, where they will later be judged and thrown into the Lake of fire.

==========================================================================

Judgment before the Great White Throne (after the thousand years)

11Then I saw a great white throne and the One seated on it. Earth and heaven fled from His presence, and no place was found for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne.

And there were open books, and one of them was the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their deeds, as recorded in the books. 13The sea gave up its dead, and Death and Hades gave up their dead, and each one was judged according to his deeds.

14Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death—the lake of fire. 15And if anyone was found whose name was not written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Well a lot of folks here credit Catholicism with the invention of Purgatory. And I'm not disputing them.

This world works a lot like they have imagined purgatory does. Which is a point of introspection IMO.

A true story. A thermodynamics professor had written a take home exam for his graduate students. It had one question:

“Is hell exothermic or endothermic? Support your answer with a proof.”

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle’s Law or some variant. One student, however, wrote the following:

“First, we postulate that if souls exist, then they must have some mass. If they do, then a mole of souls can also have a mass. So, at what rate are souls moving into hell and at what rate are souls leaving? I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.

As for souls entering hell, lets look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Some of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to hell. Since there are more than one of these religions and people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all people and all souls go to hell.

With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in hell to increase exponentially.

Now, we look at the rate of change in volume in hell. Boyle’s Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in hell to stay the same, the ratio of the mass of souls and volume needs to stay constant.

So, if hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter hell, then the temperature and pressure in hell will increase until all hell breaks loose.

Of course, if hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in hell, than the temperature and pressure will drop until hell freezes over.”

It was not revealed what grade the student got.
Either way, hell boiling over or freezing over, it is quite the calculus.

Science only able to explain physical thing we don't know what is soul chemical formula, so scientist not qualified to explain hell, they never go to hell or take sample little part to Annalise in his lab
Just to say if one have cancer or not, need take sample and test in the lab
Professor never visit he'll or study there
