It was that, now it can and sometimes is argued that with corporations wanting to show how diverse their workforce is the most discriminated against people are straight white men because they are seen as undiverse or else there are already too many of them in the company and we'd really rather hire a different type of person.

handmaid tale scenarios still operate in different places of the world...in islamic countries, some mormon sects, and very ultra conservative societies, where women are just seen as inferior to do whatever males want them to do, even if they dont want to, even if they die doing so.

if they try and do things males do, they are accused of stealing the males jobs. Even when it turns out that some are capable if not more so.

I know of women who are engineers, and they are brilliant, but in such a male dominated profession, they are harassed and put down for being female.
it used to be like that for doctors too. as if women couldnt practise medicine, when theyd been doing so quietly for thousands of years previous. Its because the 'old boys clubs' didnt let women in obviously.

This means theres lots of 'womens groups' because women are excluded from having a say in everything else. women couldnt even vote in some countries, though policies affect both men and women.

I think there are some real issues brewing for straight white men and I have noticed that there is a definite tension within their relationships at home ma from what they are feeling in society and from spouses which I guess I see as a mixed-race Guy and hear both sides

old boys (white) club again. most of them will be board members who get to make desiscions that affect thousands or even millions of peoples lives. If the board is not diverse, they only make descisions that affect themselves without anyone elses views taken into account.

sometimes there might be a token female on a board, but she might get overruled by the majority and silenced, as tends to happen.

well english people are kinda weird, very xenophobic, and always always want to be the ones in charge. They have this thing called 'rule britannia' and dont believe they will ever be slaves, yet somehow this justifies enslaving everyone else.
the royal family are mostly germans and the queen was married to a greek. But they frown on anyone else who is 'other'.

I've got multiple responses to that 1) Nepotism is a great British tradition (partially but not entirely true since nepotism is practiced in a lot of places and instances, but supposedly nepotism was the origin of the saying " Bob's your uncle"). 2) If you know a friend that you're sure will do a good job, why take a chance on a stranger? 3) Yeah but how many jobs can you fill before you run out of friends?

Not to mention - how do you know that the stranger could/would not possibly become a better friend - and do a better job - than at least some of the ones you have now?

The place I used to work at never advertised jobs....well one or two to make it look good. But the jobs were always filled with either relatives or friends of friends of employees. I think this probably happens all over more than we think. Doesn't make it right, but? In fact that's how I got started, through a friend.

No 3's an interesting one I suppose it would be never ending. assuming jobs only come up every so often? :unsure:

I think the logical (granted who ever said that people are logical) idea of jobs is that you want to get the best qualified and reliable person for an open position. So a stranger has a 30 minute interview to convince whoever is hiring that they're all that vs someone recommended by a known reliable and trustworthy longtime employee. I don't know that a certain amount of preference for the people you know is a bad thing, though we can all think of times when jobs were given as charity or favors to family members who weren't qualified and didn't deserve them. Merit plus personal connection seems fine, it's personal connection regardless of merit that people get upset about because that makes organizations incompetent and also discourages people from trying to improve themselves if there's no reward for it.

if you have good references that gives you a leg up
it is who you know that makes the difference.

But it can also be unfair not to let others have the chance, veteran of so many failed job interviews here...
If they already decided on someone else and you go to the interview, what a complete waste of time though!

When you are young you are most likely to be exploited. When you are old you are most likely to be cast aside. And when sisters BULLY each other its terrible.
If you ever get into management, dont copy the nearest tyrant.

There is a cultural superiority complex that holds the nation back. In my humble opinion
