READ the Bible. Do the study.
READ the Bible. Do the study.
No one, not even you or I, is able to seize knowledge or discernment from our Father. It must be received as a gift.

My own faith does not allow for my revealing veracity or fraud if it is not given me to have that particular gift.

As per reading the Word, and studying it, I began this in 1969, and I have continued since. My studies have taken me to many countries sharing what little I have gleaned, from California to Israel, and now Spain, so you should not assume about anyone=s basis for a response that is simple and true.

No matter how much we study, we only receive what is give each of us by the Holy Spirit, and personally, I would not have it any other way.

People who actually read and study the Scriptures and are not deceived by WHAT THEY WANT TO DO.
ahh ok lol

seems as if the op question is a baited hook for an argument betweeen someone who has received tongues and someone who hasn’t and thinks it’s fake

my point is the only person who’s going to have an informed opinion about tongues is someone who has actually received tongues

everyone doesn’t receive tongues and it’s certainly not a subject to create arguments among believers .

the gifts of the spirit are many and diverse some receive tongues others receive other gifts for the purpose of edification of the church

“Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:4-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

tongues isn’t a pre requisite that if you don’t receive it your not saved like some think and it’s not a fake thing that ceased like others think . We’ve turned on each other so much that we argue about gifts given from God for the whole church .

some receive tongues , others receive interpretation of tongues , some prophecy , some evangelism but our hands are working hard to chop off our feet and our nose is wanting to gouge out our eyes if we don’t believe someone else received a gift from God that’s not an informed answer it’s ones own thought because they haven’t

That video you posted was very disturbing to me. But do you know what popped into my head while I watched the like first minute of it?

My musings are in parentheses. It's something that came to my mind while I watched the disturbing video you posted.

Ezekiel 14:1 Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.

2 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?
(Is this belief in tongues some sort of spiritual idol?)

4 Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;
(This belief in tongues some sort of spiritual idol in their hearts?)

5 That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.
(These tongues?)

6 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

7 For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:
(Interesting how God will answer them himself without using a prophet.)

8 And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

9 And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.
(in wrath perpetuating their belief in tongues and answering them as such?)

10 And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him;

11 That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord GOD.
(Making an example of deluded idolators?)

I don't care if they call themselves Jw's and have prime time on ABC.

Jesus said deception would Come yes Jesus also said I will send the comforter in my name. He will teach you and lead you into all truth.
my denomination doesn't support any of those in the video. who are in error and misusing the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

We don't encourage one to get their teaching from Youtube, on TV, or even TBN, and Star. But to seek God in His word and pray and go to a Bible Believing Church which I Must add I as minister pentacostel have sent many people to non-pentacostel churches who teach tongues are not for today. WHY>? Because it is not essential for salvation God is fully capable of helping them come to know the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

I do not teach people how to speak in tongues I teach the word of God and the empowering of the Holy Spirit.
I hear you.....BUT YOU are the one who said that they were NOT Christians. That kind of proves my point.....dont you think.

No sir. The op's point is that the "Tongues" seen operating in churches today are NOT what the Bible describes "Tongues".

There is NOT an argument to be made. You either do what YOU want to do or you do what the Bible says you should do.

1 Corinthians 13:8-9.........
" Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away."

After YOU have read the literal Word of God above, allow me to ask several common, simple, everyday questions.

1. What do YOU think the phrase ..." whether there be prophecies, they shall fail;" means.?????
2. What do YOU think the phrase...." whether there be tongues, they shall cease;"...means?
3. What do YOU think the phrase ..." whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away., means?

Can you define the meaning of the words....
A. FAIL?
B. CEASE?
C. VANISH?

4. Why do YOU think that there is NO record of Jesus ever speaking in tongues?
A. If Christ were going to speak in tongues, it would have been logical for Him to do so at His baptism when “the Spirit descended on him like a dove” as seen in Mark 1:10. So if the argument is valid that tongues comes with the filling of the Holy Spirit, WHY DIDN"T JESUS SPEAK IN TONGUES AT THAT POINT? We know that, moments after His baptism the Father spoke from heaven in
words that all could understand (verse 11), but we have no record of Jesus speaking in tongues on this or any other occasion.

5. WHY do YOU think that Acts 2 says that those present at Pentecost HEARD PETER IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE?

These are all very important and relativized questions that must be answered by those who believe that tongues are valid today.

It very well may be my friend. What I do know that what is seen today is NOT the "tongues" that are seen in the Bible.
Please show me where I said someone was not a Christian? I said a "linguist" is not an office or a gift to the church. And the argument made by a Linguist is not a Biblical one it is a secular one that is not Christian. Can a person who is a linguist get saved and be a Christian? Yes. However, if they use secular teaching to Disprove the word of God because they can't understand the gifts of the Holy Spirit that is an error. Nor is it to be seen as authoritative in the interpretation of the word of God.

I know that the gifts of the Holy Spirit that I have seen are from God because I know from the word of God when they are in use what is supposed to happen Do you know? If you do please tell me one.

You must learn how to read the word of God 1cor 13: 8-10 is not how you build the context
1cor 13:8-9 by its self doesn't remove chapters 12 and 14 which are unit chapters.

Also

1. What do YOU think the phrase ..." whether there be prophecies, they shall fail;" means.????? it does say did
2. What do YOU think the phrase...." whether there be tongues, they shall cease;"...means? it doesn't say have ceased
3. What do YOU think the phrase ..." whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away., means? it doesn't say have vanished

Nor does it say ones the canonization of the bible the gifts of the Holy Spirit are done away with. If you are going to use only one verse out of the three chapters that are contextually together You deal with

1cor 12:4-11 27-30

4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same[fn] Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. 28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But earnestly desire the best[fn] gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.

Chapter 14:1-2

1 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

37-40

37 If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord. 38 But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.
39 Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues. 40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

I have to question your motives here. Are you saying that the Christian, who read the Word of God, studies that Word then does not have the discernment of the Holy Spirit?????

If not, would you care to explain Ephesians 5:11..........
"And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them."

I as well as you have done extensive study beginning in 1964 with post graduate work at DTS and Liberty. I too have traveled from USA to Africa, Israel, Nicaragua, Hatti and Costa Rica.

My work and studies have been in the area of Cults and religions and what they do and where they come from.

If you take the time to go to From Pagan to Christian: an archaeological study of the transformation of Corinth in Late Antiquity (macalester.edu) you will find a thesis for a B.A. which will detail the Pagan religions that were involoved in the church at Corinth from out of which came the practice of "Speaking in Tongues".

Now in Matthew 7:7.........
"And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

What do YOU think Jesus was talking about???

We know too little of the details of the ritual of classical heathenism to be able to say how far the charge of vain repetition applied at this time to them. The cries of the worshippers of Baal “from morning even until noon” (1Kings 18:26), the shouts of those of Artemis at Ephesus “for the space of two hours” (Acts 19:34), may be taken as representative instances.

I do not agree. My dear brother, I read the Word of God, ONE WORD AT A TIME and accept it as LITERALLY what God said.

Since God said that TONGES WILL CEASE......That is exactly what I read and accept. I am just not smart enough to reject that and then do what I want to do.

I believe that the way I framed that post is exactly the Biblical and contextual way it should be done. You are of course free to disagree and because you want to speaking this gibberish, I am sure that you will do just that.

1 Corth. 14:34.........
"Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law."

The CONTEXT of the unit which you have said is about "Tongues" says women are not to speak in them at all.

Remove women talking in tongues in church and there is NO tongues spoken at all. Tongues is a very emotional event dominated by women. At least in every church I have observed them.

you can't prove that biblically that has to be read into the text. it is not gibberish it is a gift of the Holy Spirit. I do not have to look at pagan beliefs nor listen to secular humanism to discredit the word of God. The only gibberish I see and hear is the false teaching you have of 1cor 13:8-9. You don't know the context of women in the church other than their silence. You only pick the verses that you think are more backing your opinion.

1cor 11:5 says women Prophecy and how they are to do so. You don't understand the church setting this is clear because you did not know the answer to the question I asked I will try again.

This will never be settled. Personally, I don't buy it for a second. Around the turn of the 20th century is when the modern "signs and wonders" movement started. People were looking for more of a personal experience of God, and there were dubious preachers and teachers who were more than willing to give it to them. It's all manufactured and I feel sorry for people who've bought the lie.

At least in every church I have observed them.

you need to get out more. not surprised you blame women though. the worst offenders are men. I've heard plenty use a mic and blather away with a false interpretation. this forum is absolute proof that people who are not in accord with scripture forbid women to speak even though scripture is plain they can and do speak in the NT.

tongues are not dominated by women. that is absurd

IMO, people of like mind with you should keep silent. I've been to plenty of churches, including where women cannot pray or speak, and the men make up for any embarrassment they think a woman might cause

yawn. would not expect you to say anything less :sneaky:

This will never be settled. Personally, I don't buy it for a second. Around the turn of the 20th century is when the modern "signs and wonders" movement started. People were looking for more of a personal experience of God, and there were dubious preachers and teachers who were more than willing to give it to them. It's all manufactured and I feel sorry for people who've bought the lie.
that is not true LOL.

No matter how much we study, we only receive what is give each of us by the Holy Spirit, and personally, I would not have it any other way.

there have been many threads on tongues over time here (I'm a repeat offender who left and came back so been here longer than it looks like) and proof has been given that your statement is obsolete.

people love to say it all started on Azusa street yakkity yak yak, but that is historically inaccurate

I actually don't care much anymore what people believe, but it should be noted that those who deny what scripture plainly states, often become abusive and angry at those with a 'better' revelation. stupid videos are offered, tv charismatics are quoted etc etc

guess what? those sources do not represent biblical gifts either so...
