Everything that is not of faith is sin. Physical idols would definitely be in that category.

It all depends on your Heart and what it testifies about the buddha buddy. If a person had a buddha buddy for lecturing or teaching purposes, it couldn't possibly be a sin. Buddha has never been anything more than wood, stone, glass, metal, etc . . . meh. For example, I own a Mormon Bible, not because I want to become a Mormon, but because I don't want to be stupid on the subject. I can't imagine anyone saying that I was sinning because I owned that "bible" for the sake of understanding a position. 
Maybe someone gave it to them, but I would think that if you a christian believer you wouldnt really have the space or want one in your home.
Theres all sorts of 'decor' that is not really honoring God. People have all sorts of things as ornaments though, garden gnomes, toby jugs, swan vases etc. I remember a neighbour gave me a fairy ornamnent that i didnt ask for or want. so I said sorry butI dont want it and dont know what to do with it (he just kind of dumped it on me) so I put in in the trash. Someone else gave me an owl. I got rid of that as well.
I have no use for useless ornaments, They arent even like cushions that you can sit on they just collect dust.
I cant do much about other peoples things but I can keep my own space tidy and honoring to God. If it was just a doll I suppose you could put it in a dollhouse with all the other figures and tiny furniture but if not am not sure why people have them.

According to the 14th chapter of Romans; you should probably put your
Buddhist things away whenever you have Christian guests over to avoid
making them uncomfortable and/or provoking a useless debate over a minor
issue.
We have a cute little Hindu figurine of Ganesha that we picked up as a
souvenir in a gift shop after watching a series on Netflix called Sense8. The
only thing the little figurine means to us is cultural art; whereas others
might see it as idolatry and get upset.

We really need to take on a new attitude in how we deal with those who do not claim Christianity. The Words of Paul:
1 Corinthians 9:19-23 NKJV - "For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. Now this I do for the gospel's sake, that I may be partaker of it with you."
Paul isn't teaching that Christians become Buddhist, but he is saying that we need to lighten up and "work" with people.
