Rev 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

(MY NOTE: Christ is the 1st begotten of the dead.)

Hello @0000000, "first begotten" or literally, "firstborn" has to do with the Lord Jesus' preeminence over death and/or over creation .. see Colossians 1:15-18 (particularly v15 & 18), not with the chronological order of His birth as a human being or His death and resurrection (as many were born before He was, and there were some who died and were brought back to life before He was, as well).

It was a common expression in the 1st Century and earlier.

~Deut

Colossians 1
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created by Him and for Him.
17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have ~first place~ in everything.

Colossians 1
15 He is the image of the invisible God,
Is this the same as being created in the image of the invisible God?
If you are created in the image of the invisible God then you
are the image of the invisible God.
Is this right?

Hello again @0000000, we (human beings) were created in the image of God, the Lord Jesus ~is~ the very image of God (being God Himself, and as such, from/to everlasting, without end ~OR~ beginning .. IOW, Jesus is not a 'created' being as He, in point of fact, is the Creator Himself .. see below, where the Lord Jesus Christ is referred to as "the Word").

~Deut

John 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was ~with~ God, and the Word ~was~ God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.
14 And the Word ~became~ flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jesus is the first and only one to defeat death hell and the grave.

Jesus said " no man takes my life, I lay it down freely and I have the power to take it back again. the "Begotten " is descriptive, it is speaking of the one and only Son of the Living God. The word " only " is missing in your question.

First begotten of the dead, means the first resurrected. Jesus' resurrection was into glorification and eternal life. This is different than those who died that he brought back from death. They eventually died again, and will join in the likeness of the resurrection of Jesus.

Would it not be more close to the truth to say
the Spirit of God within Jesus was the first one to defeat death hell and the grave?

The thing to understand about this is that it is emphasizing the reality of being dead spiritually and then alive spiritually. Jesus talked about being born again and it confused people because they thought they he meant natural birth again (born again). But the Bible says that the true believers were dead spiritually but then were quickened to believe on Jesus, to trust in God, so that they became alive spiritually.

"And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; "

True believers were once dead in their sins, without God, and without hope in the world.

"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: "

Are any of you born again? To me this is the same as your question asking 'are any of you begotten of the dead?'

Jesus was the first born from the dead. He was the first to be resurrected, which it should be remembered was spiritual birth for him. He took our sins upon himself and became death spiritually. So much so that he asked God why he had forsaken him. Then, God raised him up from spiritual death with his life spirit that was not dead and he was able to give that spirit to persons who were now also able to be born from spiritual death to spiritual life.

How so seeing that Jesus, if it is true, is the resurrection.
He is the first to to resurrect from the dead. And in his resurrection we also will be resurrected.

First begotten of the dead means the first resurrected.
Correct. You could take that one step further and say the one who was first resurrected by His own volition and within the period of time specified by Himself. The Bible says that God the Father raised up Christ, God the Son also raised up Himself, and God the Holy Spirit also raised Him up. Jesus said "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it up in three days" (with reference to His body).

If you recall Christ and the apostles had resurrected people before the resurrection of Christ. Lazarus is the outstanding example. But Christ CHOSE the moment of His death (earlier than anticipated) and also chose the day of His resurrection (the first day of the week, in order to fulfil the Feast of First Fruits).

Thus Christ is called "the firstfruits of them that slept" meaning that the main harvest will be at the Resurrection/Rapture, while the gleanings will be the Tribulation saints.

While Jesus did raise them, they were not raised into eternity, or in Glory. They eventually died again, and await the resurrection in Christ. He is the first to be resurrected into eternal Glory. I know he is God and always has eternal Glory from eternity to eternity. However I mean him bodily raised and ascended into glory forever. Which we shall all be like wise raised by him into his eternal glory. I think I made that clear but it's possible that this may read like confusion.

If you hold the word of God where it says all power and authority has been given to me ( Jesus) then the answer is no.

The Bible does say " the Spirit of God within Jesus defeated death, hell, and the grave.

Matthew 28:18

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

1cor 15:57

But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Rev 4:11

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

It can be read, the first begotten (common to born of woman, as begotten is a term relative to a father receiving a child via birth by woman)....with 'of the dead' being used as descriptive of the begotten rather than used for adverb, as

No other 'man,' whether then now or later would've enjoyed any form of resurrection if it were not for Jesus' conquest of death.....

gosh... i have to look over this to see if I said what I was thinking rightly...

...in attempt to clarify, I mean that 'begotten' be considered a noun rather than a verb...to be exact... perhaps the lexicon would help to provide me insight toward the validity of my perception?
