Is there a certain criteria for worshiping that God has commanded or ordained His people to take part in? If so, then the church could be in danger of failing to operate under the biblical theology principle. Some denominations practice traditional ways in which they worship God that had been passed down from generation to generation that they believe characterize biblical worship. The Bible shows many forms of worship, thus giving Christians many examples of expressing our love for God. The Bible teaches that Christians can simply open their hearts to God, giving thanks for the many wonderful things He has done for His children. Also, praising His name and acknowledging His awesome power are other ways of worshiping God. Hebrews 12:28, "let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear."
Psalm 47:1 "O clap your hands......shout unto God with the voice of triumph." The worship of God is not only internal but external too.
1 Timothy 2:8 "Pray.....lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting." Anger and disbelief should not be in our hearts when worshiping our Lord.
John 4:24 "Worship in spirit and in Truth." True worship comes from the heart. It is a spiritual event. So, if our worship isn't in truth and if it isn't straight from the heart, it doesn't matter what form it is. In Isaiah 29:13, the people's worship didn't come from their hearts, so Isaiah condemns his own people for honoring God with just their "mouths" and "lips" and not with their hearts. Spiritual worship coming straight from our hearts is what God is looking for, rather than merely words or emotions of the moment.
Do we give all our heart to God? Do we let our jobs, material possessions, money, or family interfere with how we worship God? These things and others can hinder how we worship our Heavenly Father. These interferences can cause us to miss God's blessing when we are not totally focused on Him. The Greek word for worship can also mean, service. Our daily lives and how we live it should be an act of service or worship to our loving Father. When we think of worship and how to worship God, we shouldn't overthink it. Worship is simply our reaction to our love for our Heavenly Father.
