Hi, i hope everyone is well! Recently i've heard some mumblings about Sodom and Gomorrah being about things other than homosexuals. My wife's friend states its about pedophilia!! How does everyone interpret it?

Consider the below Scripture:
Isaiah 1:9-11 NKJV - "Unless the LORD of hosts Had left to us a very small remnant, We would have become like Sodom, We would have been made like Gomorrah. Hear the word of the LORD, You rulers of Sodom; Give ear to the law of our God, You people of Gomorrah: "To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?" Says the LORD. "I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams And the fat of fed cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, Or of lambs or goats."
"Become like Sodom"? Note that there were no references to any specific sin, and I'd say that this is because it doesn't really matter. Corruption is corruption. An uncircumcised Heart is an uncircumcised Heart, and no uncircumcised Heart will ever enter the Gates of Heaven. This is what the entire Bible is about . . . possessing a Purified Heart.
It doesn't matter if a person has sex with a dead body or if that same person simply steals a piece of candy. Sin is sin, and both of these examples warrant death. What is the solution to this problem of the Adamic Curse and its subsequent "Sinful State of Man?" Colossians 2:9-15 . . . this is the solution . . . the only solution.
Colossians 2:10-15 KJV - "And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: 11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with [him] through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it."

Sexual immorality is the umbrella term to categorize all sexual sin.
Genesis 19:1-8 ESV
19 The two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them and bowed himself with his face to the earth 2 and said, “My lords, please turn aside to your servant's house and spend the night and wash your feet. Then you may rise up early and go on your way.” They said, “No; we will spend the night in the town square.” 3 But he pressed them strongly; so they turned aside to him and entered his house. And he made them a feast and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

The men of the city did assume the angels to men and wanted to have sexual relations with them. Pedophilia may be implied from Lot wanting to give his daughters instead but they were of age due to Lot having Son in laws. Pedophilia though could be under sexual immorality.
Ezekiel 16:49-50 ESV
Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy. They were haughty and did an abomination before me. So I removed them, when I saw it.
Also we see the sin of pride, apathy, selfishness, and wicked which meant they did all things detestable to God.
To be basically nuked by God, you have to be as bad as it comes.
Ananias and Saphira kept part of the money that was technically theirs, yet God killed them for lying about it. The Lord taking lives is an intricate "thing" that has many purposes. . . and Power.
the understanding of sodom & Gomorrah must be seen where it is at in the bible first.
Gen 13:13 says " But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly. "
They did things that were very offensive to God, what did they do? The Bible doesn't record all they did but wicked was the condition they were in which covers a whole host of things.
Gen 18:20 "And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; "
We know from Isiah and The Lord Jesus they did terrible sin and sexual sin was it.
Let us remember it wasn't one, or two but two cities. God flooded the world to destroy almost the entire human race. It will be judged again by fire but even greater than anything imaginable.
There's no question their sexual lust was out of control, but I don't see how a person could interpret it as pedophilia specifically. Ask her to show you the scriptures on which she bases her view.
At some point many churches need to contemplate and reconsider their views on homosexuality. DON'T SHOOT.....I know it's a sin and earnestly pray for those who have been deceived. Yet time and time again I hear churches and preachers rail against this " abomination" as if it were the only sin, or perhaps the greatest of sins. This sin is held up and pointed out as the sin that proves our degeneration. I rarely hear sermons about about drinking, smoking, lust, abortion; or the cause if all sin, the soul crushing sin of pride.
In my experience organized Christianity sometimes has difficulties with the repentance they preach to others.

Lot chose to live near Sodom because it was fertile and a well watered area, it was described like a garden. I imagine it was a very prosperous, beautiful place...that became decadant and corrupt. Sort of like the Hollywood of its day..flashy yet hollow.

Even among sexually-related sins alone, homosexuality is probably the least rampant when compared to the likes of adultery, fornication, and even...wait for it...masturbation. In my estimation, having lost the battle long ago regarding these sins, the church is pretty much powerless in its fight against the homosexual agenda.

People usually proclaim these things to circumvent or distort the truth of God's word.
That Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities were engaging in same-sex is supported by the context.
All of the men of Sodom, both young and old, surrounded lots house and said, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us, that we may know them.”
Lot's response to this reveals what this mob meant by "that we may know them" when Lot replied:
"Please, my brothers,” he pleaded, “don’t do such a wicked thing! Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them to you, and you can do to them as you please.
Someone in a recent post suggested that the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was that the men were idle and neglected the poor. I'm sure that this is not the reason that the Lord destroyed all the cities in the plain. This reason is evident when the men wanted Lot to bring out those two angels and Lot responds with "don't do such a wicked thing!" And also offers up his daughters claiming that they had never slept with a man. This in itself tells us exactly what this mob wanted, which was to have sexual relations with those angels.
Regarding the claim of their sin being pedophilia, I'm sure that those angels were not young children, as the mob said, "where are the men who came to you tonight." There is nothing in the context that would suggest that this was about pedophilia.
Plain and simple, the Lord destroyed all of the cities of the plain, because they were all indulging in same-sex life styles, i.e. going after strange flesh. Regarding them Jude says:
"just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, having indulged in sexual immorality and having gone after strange flesh, in like manner with them are set forth as an example, undergoing the penalty of eternal fire."

What impresses me about Sodom and Gomorrah is God's reaction to their sin. God would not destroy the city if there were remnants of His people in the city. It tells me that we Christians are important to the Lord.
As the wages of sin is death, it's irrelevant what the sins are. The end result is the same without salvation.
However, it might be interesting to look at the churches. There is serious trouble with them. They do not feed the poor ( in spirit) who need to hear the word of God. Instead, they hear sermons about every day life and how to fit God into it. They stuff themselves to the gills with such everyday so-called inspiration, none having really anything to do with doctrine.
I even listened to a sermon on You Tube about the Good Samaritan. It had very little to do about the good Samaritan or the Levite priest that crossed the road and left the man to perish. There is serious spiritual doctrine to be addressed there and it's left out. After about 10 minutes, the whole thing shifted to some alcoholic priest who was able to kick the drinking thanks to his faith in God. Nice story, and a lot of commenters said they were inspired by it, but not the spiritual food we need to survive.

Also what is interesting is that Lot is said to be "sitting in the gate." Now, Lot and his family were the only ones saved.
Jesus is often referred to as "the door" or "the gate." The picture I get of this is that Lot sat safely hidden in Jesus Christ and no harm came to him on the day of judgment.
Hello Seeker47, we preach exegetically at my church, so if a particular sin is on the pages of the Bible that the sermon is taken from, that's the one we hear about.
As for churches discussing homosexuality more than any other sin (save Westboro Baptist, of course
), I think it only 'looks' that way because it's so often made public, so it enters the news cycle and regularly makes its way onto headlines, and into social media outlets, of course. The other, obvious reason that the sin of homosexuality seems more prevalent in discussions today is because it's always in our faces.
For instance, if there had been.....
1. Alcoholic or Smoker or Adulterer or Rapist or Murderer Pride Parades going on for 60 years now (like the LGBTQ+ have been doing),
2. if we had national organizations leading marches, rallies, sit-ins, having special days set apart at places like Disney in honor of those other sins,
3. if they also followed the LGBTQ+ lead by insisting that their sins are not only 'not' sinful, but a perfectly normal, alternative lifestyle choice,
4. and if they insisted that their sin must be taught as normal behavior to our children, from pre-school on,
.....then those sins would be front and center in our lives too.
Fortunately, that's not what happens with other types of sinful behavior because, normally, people are ashamed of all of the other sins (to one degree or another), so they don't make them into a public spectacle and insist that their sinful behavior is normal and that it must be accepted as such, rather, they do their very best to hide the fact that they are involved in those sins.

p.s. - just FYI, this 'idea' that our churches, in general, have become homophobic and overly concerned with a single sin has no basis in fact whatsoever. Rather, it's a well-crafted lie that's being perpetuated as part of the LGBTQ+'s political agenda (and thanks to the folks at Westboro Baptist, it's a lie that everyone, so far, has accepted as believable, even though there have been no demands for any factchecking concerning it).
