Have had OCD since childhood and then in my 20s developed Scrupulosity. I am almost 40 and recovering .

Am glad his has been posted this form of OCD is more common than is thought to be. For me it was linked to trauma f rom abuse including religious abuse and interlaps with other me mental health conditions for which am in recovery with a therapist who is also Christian

It definitely is a real thing and almost killed me through suicide

Yes, it is a real thing. I have dealt with scrupulosity and it is frustrating and it is partly why I posted this thread. I am glad you are here and I wish you a speedy recovery. Remember always that God loves you.

There is nothing wrong with walking out your faith and giving God first place.

There problem arises when you obsess over things like praying the right words and then having to redo the prayer again and again. Or if you obsess over lying such as maybe you got home at 5:31pm and you told someone you got home at 5:30pm. Some people keep on worrying that maybe they committed the unpardonable sin despite much reassurance that they did not.

Those are just some examples of obsessions one may have involving religion.
Amen. I have experienced this in my life. Turns people away from God when they feel like they can't be perfect enough to walk with Christ. Very serious subject.
