Gracie teaches de-escalation techniques and techniques in using leverage and distance management to safely subdue a combative suspect
Do you think this is something more police academies should implement?

With out a doubt. A police officer should first attempt to defuse a situation, and then if it can't be defused; use calculated force to subdue a combatant.
But before anything they should be absolutely trained in the rights of the people and the law. Not necessarily lawyer depth but practical application. They should also be trained to get to know their community and the people and develope a working relationship with them.
But you know and I know that is not what the political elites want. They want attack dogs in the streets ready to pounce. To be the front line in the class war. To keep the proles in place.

Yes, probably, they should have every tool available to them. I watched the video again as Floyd yelled and cried out and the officer seemed unmoved by his cries. So the cop has been labeled as a racist and had no compassion for humanity. People are calling for the death penalty for this man. But I thought about the police shows I've watched down through the years, the reality shows. First C.O.P.S and then Live PD. And I think, cops have heard every lie, every excuse, they are impervious to it at this point, they'd have to be. And they've heard people screaming that they were dying, couldn't breathe, in pain time and time again too. I would think after a while it would be the same as that old doctor with the horrible bedside manner that comes in and tells you you have days to live and walks out. I wonder if cops become jaded like that because they heard this every single day. Maybe this also has a part to play. Just a thought.

Great idea but this involves more funding. More training, more money. We are also creating an environment that forces cops to be on the job with less training as they are under staffed. Hard to hire people when you do not want to be crucified for every action you do.

Jiu Jitsu involves many choke holds and mainly focuses on ground fighting almost like wrestling. They could use something with both standing and ground fighting techniques.

Biggest problem is the need of more money, more cops, and morality to help prevent corruption.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a self-defence martial art and combat sport based on grappling
(ne-waza) and submission holds. It focuses on the skill of taking an opponent to the
ground, controlling one's opponent, gaining a dominant position and using a number
of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds. (from wiki)

Yeap lol. If they only train in this manner then they will not feel confident in fighting while standing. If you are on the ground with multiple assailants then this can be bad for the officer. Best to subdue the threat while standing if available.

We had quite a few police officers and military in our martial arts class back when I trained in it.

According to Gracie
The average police officer gets about 4 hours a year of actual Hands-On arrest training
So what happens is the office I get into a hand to have scaffold with a resisting suspect, panics as he is grossly under trying it doesn't know what he's doing and goes into what is called amygdala hijack which is that instinctual fight or flight mode
The Brazilian jiu jitsu will teach the officer to remain calm and keep control of the combative suspect

According to Gracie, NYPD recently band any and all grappling and submission holds that involve anything with the neck and torso
So now that they have literally taken the most non-violent options away from the officer to subdue a suspect then they have no other option but to escalate the violence or just let the guy go

Yeap. The police chief should just tell their officers to only respond to certain calls. Let them reap what they sow and soon the community will be demanding the politicians and media to stop this false narrative. In New York homicides have risen since their woke policies.
