If you genuinely want to improve your human anatomy you can try 10 second - 30 second ones on your own. But from your posts you seem to be struggling a lot during those sessions, I doubt you'll want to do more gesture drawings. Try talking to your teacher to find some alternatives, like doing only male figures instead.

It's only a small high school mark so it doesn't matter much. Just letting you know though, if you want to further pursue illustration figure drawing in classes will be unavoidable.
thanks for the reply Revieraname, I appreciate it.

Hi everyone, I have this art class I am taking. A few days ago, we had a practice where images of a female in different poses were shown on the screen and we would do gesture drawing (which is different from contour drawing). She wasn't nude or anything like that, but many many times I felt like I was at war when I looked at her, experiencing and trying to reject bad pleasure. To be fair, maybe I could've just used peripheral vision or just looked at certain areas that would be less stimulating. In a few days, I think we'll be doing something like that again, except it'll be with a model who is clothed in a way that I would perceive to be much more stimulating. Maybe I could try heavily reducing the amount of time my eyes are on the screen, but I dunno. I guess I have two questions for you guys.

1) What should I do?
2) Is it a good idea to (for the next years) drop or switch the class? I don't know what stuff we'll cover in the next two years of the course (I have about maybe 6 weeks left of school).
I'm wondering what your thoughts and feelings are about sex and sexuality? Which ultimately is connected to what you've been taught concerning it.

I don't think it's a matter of should, everyone's on a journey. I'm by no means in a position to teach anyone just yet but what I have discovered is healthy thinking regards to sex, sexuality and the human body. Both free sex and hard line abstinence and avoidance of all things sexual are bondages.

I'm processing a lot regarding this so I'm not going to say anything else, I probably shouldn't have said anything at all in this thread. Im sorry.

Oh no no no, I think you’re fine! Thanks for replying breno
I think it’s just that I probably didn’t feel like stating my position on sex, sexuality, and the human body

Btw, how do u think I should approach asking my art teacher if I could have an alternative assignment? I’m thinking of doing work on my end to find some form of somewhat of an equivalent because it’s porbably unfair for him to have me ask him to have to go back and do some searching or something for me.
Although thankfully even if I don’t do the assignment my grade is still good haha.

If I did choose to not do the assignment, I wonder what I’d do during class when what’s most likely going to happen is we’ll have the assignment, everyone else will be be drawing, and the video will be playing.

Yeah, find some equivalent options beforehand that you can suggest to your teacher. Just don't start the assignment without his/her approval incase you'll have to redo it.

Thanks for replying Rivername!
If he asks like why I want a different assignment though, what do you think might be a good response?

I would say... something like "I'm not comfortable with drawing female figures". He might accept that as a reason, if he doesn't you'll have to explain further.

Honestly the response depends on your teacher's attitude, if he's laid back or "nice" you might not have to explain as much. If he's a teacher that likes to strictly follow the curriculum you'll have a harder time convincing him to switch assignments.

Update: I went through the drawing assignment in class today, I felt like I did better, the experience wasn’t as bad as last time

Art class is probably the best place to overcome lust because you have to observe the human body while focusing on the task at hand. You don't have time to lust if you want to get the assignment done, so you have to train yourself to not think about those things while you are working. And the ultimate issue is what is going on in your heart and mind, not what you are seeing. The ultimate test of self-control and walking in the Spirit is being able to see a nude without automatically responding with lustful thoughts, and you can't get there by constantly avoiding the external stimulus. Note what Jesus says about the origin of sin and what defiles us in Matthew 15: defilement doesn't come from external things that we may be exposed to, but it comes from our hearts. The focus should all be on what we think in our hearts, and not on what we are seeing or exposed to. Focusing on the external only leads to legalism.

---

10 Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand. 11 What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”

...

15 Peter said, “Explain the parable to us.”

16 “Are you still so dull?” Jesus asked them. 17 “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20 These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.”

(Matthew 15:10-11, 15-20)

Its a thinking process. Its harder for men than for woman but its possible. You need to discipline your mind to be more objective. Resist the temptation. Looking away is a silly way to try to handle it. Running away from problems doesnt make em go away. It makes it chronic.
When doing your art, what you look at becomes a object to copy on paper. A natural thing.

Imagine it is just a life-like statue or mannequin and not a real person.

I hope that you don't mind such a direct question, but have you ever looked at pornography before?

I'm asking because, in my own case, I never had a problem with lusting after females until I looked at pornography.

Here's a little bit of my own testimony in that regard:
