Is there a housing shortage across the U.S.? There sure is one where I live. My wife would love to find a house with an in ground pool or on the lake. Ever since the Covid pandemic, people don't seem to be traveling as much and want a pool or a lake house as well where I live. Every time we look at a house with a pool or it's on the lake, it's way over priced! Even when we find a house that we like that is barely in our price range, the owner will get multiple offers that turns into a bid war and on average, the highest offer ends up being around $30K over the asking price. :( This is very frustrating for us! We will both be retiring soon and don't want to get strapped financially. The house we live in now is nice and is almost paid off, but apparently, wifey needs water. :giggle: Having an in ground pool installed is very expensive now! Starting price is $40K.
stay put in the house you have now that's almost paid off.
Pray about it, don't make any rash decissions.
And in the meantime (space permitting) buy wifey one of these:

I'm not opposed to an above ground pool (they are much cheaper) but she seems to have her heart set on an in ground pool. We had an in ground pool before, years ago and it was large with a shallow end and deep end with a diving board. I got tired of maintaining it. I will insist on a salt water pool next time. Our previous in ground pool was installed for $25K back in 1990 by the previous owners. Today, that same pool would cost more like $65K.

Suddenly, dry land sounds a whole lot cheaper! 😬🤪🤓

It is ALWAYS amazing how God puts things in motion, sometimes decades before they manifest, Mr. and Mrs. who ever they are, are getting ready for their next stage of life and are selling the perfect house with the inground pool just like the bride wants, and when you are ready for it, it will be brought to your attention.
Would you like that with a deer stand?

Haven't waterfront properties almost always been more dear than those that are landlocked? Even living close to a beach is preferable for many than living elsewhere  I live in a neighborhood that is surrounded by water on three sides. For thirty years there were summer fireworks' displays (except for last year due to COVID), and hundreds of thousands of people would flock into this and other nearby beachfront areas to take in the spectacle. I did mingle with the masses a few times for these events, once even from a boat on the water, but mostly enjoyed them from the safety and privacy and much less crowded confines of my own living space, which afforded an excellent view of the proceedings. The older I get, the less I like crowds... but the point is, beaches are destinations for people who live elsewhere, people who may spend days or weeks preparing to take that trip, regardless of how long they plan to stay, to be near the water and the amenities offered. That pool @Godsgirl83 posted looks quite nice :) Also, I think there may be a housing crisis in many places. Real estate is ridiculously expensive, and construction of new dwellings to house burgeoning populations does not in any way seem to keep up with the demand. I do hope you are able to find something nice and affordable that satisfies both of you :D

Thank you Magenta. In addition to new real estate being expensive, the materials and quality of many of these new houses where I live are so cheap! I know a woman who built a new house in 2016 and said within the first year, just about everything that could go wrong went wrong. When it rained hard, water leaked through two windows and through the front door. Her garbage disposal stopped working in just 3 months and she also had electrical and plumbing problems! She said that she would NEVER build a new house again! I have walked into multiple brand new houses for sale multiple times and nit picked them left and right for poor quality construction. I've heard multiple new home buyers complain that they needed a new paint job and new carpet within 5 years of purchasing their new house. o_O

"thumb tacks and glue" is what I've heard newer homes are being built with.

We had a leaky condo crisis quite a few years ago, and it seemed that everywhere you went, plastic sheets covered many of these buildings, which was an eyesore for us and no doubt a nightmare for the inhabitants of those condos. Of course the culprit was the building codes, which for some reason had been changed to make the dwellings more air tight (probably for energy/heat saving reasons), but that resulted in the build up of interior moisture which was then left no escape routes, and caused leaks! You would think, if it ain't broke, they would not try to fix it, as the building codes were fine as they had been, and it also leads one to wonder why or how they were allowed to be changed in the first place, as if nobody foresaw the problems the new codes would cause.

For many years here people have been buying older houses and tearing them down to build to maximum size allowable, leaving very little green space on the property. We call them mini mansions :giggle: My daughter once counted the older houses left as we drove through her fairly large neighborhood; the number was around ten. The house beside where she lives was razed a few years ago with a mini mansion erected to take its place; that new house sold for between 5-6 million  The property my daughter lives on was purchased in the fifties for well under 50K, and is now worth, hmmm, I wanna say between 2-3 million.

It seems the best time to buy for our age range and a bit younger (I realize you are younger than I am :D) would have been about twenty years ago. Back then you could buy a fairly nice condo or even a house for maybe 200K? Now a two bedroom, single floor, shared house condo in a nice neighborhood is a million dollars. I remember when the lab I worked at for many years got a new digital printing machine, which I was the sole operator of for many years... saying many times how it cost more than a house! That was in 2003, and the cost of that equipment was just above 200k. So, yeah...

My twin brother bought a lake front house they call a cottage but we call a mansion LOL. It is quite rustic and spacious but in very good condition, and sits on more than an acre of land. He fixed it up quite a bit after buying it for around 200K about twenty years ago. Now it is worth probably three million or more as well. Like you, he spoke of his retirement for years, decades really, but he still has not retired; he is allowed to work from home so they have been living there full time for the last three years. He realizes he does not want to stay there forever, but for now, it seems quite an idyllic and ideal situation for him and his wife :)

Next door a structure built in the 50's was torn down, the roof had 1 x 12" underlayment, today it is oriented strand board, wood chips and glue.

Why this made me teary eyed 😢 I had a very tough week thank you sis for this 🤗 God is amazing 😢

A youngin can teach an oldin many other things lol 😂 but yes I've read some of your posts and there's one thing admirable I've noticed and that is how you hold yourself together despite what's happening around you... It is not so easy...I am sure. That's one of the hardest things to do...to stay strong, to stay positive and to stay sane.

Today you did something very warm to someone trying to hold herself together thank you sis and God bless you and your family ❤
Oh trust me sis, the pleasure was all mine.

It is tough these days round my parts of town, but God is GOOD, he always takes care of us no matter the situation, and I always keep in mind.. Someone somewhere has it WAAAAAAY worse than I do. We can be selfish sometimes (like we do more than we think we do) but there is someone out there who is struggling and having harder days than we are. We have to shine Gods love on them.. encourage them and let them know it’s NEVER to late to know Christ.

i saved my own mother’s life a few years ago...shes 55 now. But there was a time she was highly addicted to pills... but God came through and helped me save her life.

God loves everyone... no matter who they are.❤️

I’d love me a pool, but I’d have to be ice skating on it most of the year, so I second you in sticking to my bath tub. 😁
