And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

Give us day by day our daily bread.

And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us.

And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

...And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you;

seek, and ye shall find;

knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭11:1-11, 13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Be not ye therefore like unto them:

for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:5-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any:

that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

‭‭Mark‬ ‭11:24-26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I know there are some who don’t believe Jesus teachings are meant for us , but they are. This is Jesus the lord teaching believers about prayer . Take in his words and Consider his will and desire for you regarding prayer but also all things

prayer is a very important matter it is the most powerful action a believer does. So it seems rather wise to learn from the lord how he desires our prayers to be. Even when others explain it isn’t important or isn’t correct , belief tells us a different story.

of course there is a lot more teaching about prayer such as praying in Jesus name but a good place to begin to understand Jesus is to hear and consider his words about the things of God prayer being a really important one

God bless you

Quick question, was forgiving a part of the Old Covenant law? Seriously, am asking here because I don't know. Doesn't seem like it would have been because of the the law eye for and eye, tooth for a tooth. Just wondering...

10 (E)Your kingdom come,
(F)your will be done,
(G)on earth as it is in heaven.
11 (H)Give us (I)this day our daily bread,[c]
12 and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.

Why do Christians today cherry pick which parts Jesus taught, and apply them arbitrarily to them selves today ?
Why not this one ? Its the same thing . Jesus tells the disciples how to do something.
5¶These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

6But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

7And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

8Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

9Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,

10Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.

11¶And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.

12And when ye come into an house, salute it.

13And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

Why not follow these instructions today?

See that is where I don't know about it. Doesn't seem that forgiving others was part of the law of the OT. Many of the things that wasn't acctually stated or a part of the law of the OT, Jesus expounded upon. Seems to me in the OT they were fleshly following the law, but Jesus taught that we must follow it through and by the Spirit. They were struggling just to follow the stated parts of the law. Yet, Jesus added many things to the law by the Spirit that would be impossible to follow without the Spirit. I think this is actually where the change came in. We are to follow the Law through the Spirit and seems that is what Jesus was teaching.

Jesus seems to explain the law more fully . And I don't see anywhere where Jesus taught the hearers would only follow what he was saying with the Holy Spirit when it comes later . Jesus was preaching exactly as he should have done as a jew under the law .

Maybe I'm not making myself clear, because I don't think you are getting what I am saying. There is no way to follow the law completely without the Spirit. Without Jesus none of us could make it and we would fail. He is our help. He didn't diminish any parts of the Law. He took the place of the sacrifices and He fulfilled the law and in doing so he is able to succor us.

Do you believe that Jesus just really came to give people power to be able to folow the law in order to be saved ?

Seriously, do you think we shouldn't follow the teachings of the Lord? Is there any reason not to follow Jesus' teachings or any place in scripture that says we shouldn't? I don't think so.

From what I can gather from reading scripture... through him we are made overcomers and we are not slaves to sin anymore, but if we do mess up and sin then we have forgiveness through Jesus.

You don't mean that we should follow all of Jesus teachings today surely ?
Matt 10.

12And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:

13And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.

14¶And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.

That may be a little different. That was individual instructions to the twelve disciples.

He might tell me to go to a church in Kentucky and testify. Now that would be an individual thing for me to do and not for you to do.

But when he said love your brother as yourself, turn the other check, forgive others, etc. etc. that was for everyone. Not just something for certain individuals.

Again this wasn't a commandment or any kind of law. This was individual instructions and he didn't go tell all the Jews or lepers to do this did he? So it don't even really make any sense to use this scripture here....just saying....

It does seriously confuse and concern me as to why people want to say the sermon on the Mount was not for us. What is wrong with it? Why wouldn't we want to follow Jesus' teachings?
