The book of Enoch is mentioned in the New Testament, and I believe that it was taught to the Jews equally as much as the other books in the old testament.
Was seriously leaning towards studying it. Any words of wisdom from the audience?
I personally believe that it sheds much light on many things, especially the flood and those angels who took wives. In addition, the prophecy of Enoch was quoted by Jude:
"
Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”
I personally have a copy of the Ethiopic Enoch and there is a detailed account of Genesis 6:1-2 regarding the sons of God which are identified as angels in Enoch's version, as described below:
=====================================================
It happened after the sons of men had multiplied in those days, that daughters were born to them, elegant and beautiful. And when the angels, the sons of heaven, beheld them, they became enamored of them, saying each other: Come, let us select for ourselves wives from the progeny of men, and let us beget children.
====================================================
Compare with Genesis 6:1-2
===================================================
Now when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they took as wives whomever they chose.
====================================================
The reference in Genesis to 'the daughters of men' makes a distinction between the 'sons of God' as not being human, i.e. not men, other than. Where in Enoch's prophecy, there is not doubt that the sons of God, the sons of heaven, are in fact the angels.
According to Enoch, there were 200 hundred of these angels who descended upon the top of Mount Armon. The lead angel warned them of their intentions, but to no avail. And they even bound themselves with execrations (oaths). After taking wives, the woman the woman conceived and brought for giants (Nephilim) which grew to be 300 cubits tall. After this, these angels, also called watchers, began to teach human beings things that they were not supposed to know, such as sorcery, divination, the dividing of roots, how to make weapons of war, the beautifying of the eye brows (make up), astrology, observing the stars and signs, etc. In addition, since the giants were out of scale with mankind, they could not produce enough food to keep them fed and they began to eat the flesh of everything, even men. This and the corruption that the angels caused was the main reason for the flood. For through them the world had become altered.
I believe that it is these angels/watchers that both Peter and Jude are referring to who were put into Tartartus in chains of darkness until the great white throne judgment - 2 Pet.2:4 & Jude 1:6
