Hey Everyone,

After a string of serious discussions, let's just toss this one in for some light-hearted fun.

As we all know, Singles Awareness Day -- aka, Valentine's -- is fast approaching. It's that glorious time of year when every ad, picture, and aisle of the grocery store seems to scream out, "Hey You!!! Did You Know You're Single?! If Not, I Have Just the Artificially Manufactured Holiday to Remind You!"

Rather than dwell too much on singleness or the social pressures to hurriedly conform to coupledom, these days, I tend to see commercialized holidays as a chance to possibly purchase a few treats I wouldn't normally indulge in during the aftermath of the buying frenzy -- usually at half price the following day!

Does anyone else do the same?

If so, what particular goodies do you have your eye on?

I am including a poll in which you can check everything that applies, and just for fun, I'm going to make it a public poll so that we can see what everyone answers.

Please don't stop at the poll! After you've checked your answers, tell us what you fancy about your specific selections -- and if something you have your eye on isn't listed, be sure to mention it in your post!

Who needs Cupid after all?!

Big red hearts full of dark chocolate truffles. Lots of them and nothing else.

I'm thinking more about Lent and giving up sweets and grains (mostly my problem carbs) for Lent so I can repent of gluttony and start taking care of the temple of the Holy Spirit I've been given. (Ok yeah that's overspiritualized jargon to say I'm going to take advantage of the practice of Lent to start eating healthier but still it means I'm trying to keep sweets out of the house (or eat them within the next week)). So sadly no goodies for me, though I might pick up a chocolate man that says he's the perfect man to make a single friend feel remembered (and thoroughly embarrassed when it comes to eating certain sections of her chocolate). But with covid and my general lack of friends I actually get together with, probably won't even have the opportunity for that.

Mostly I'm hoping to bring home a new 4 legged member of the family soon, that would be a good valentine's gift.

My brother in law bought some truffles in oil of some sort back to try once to see what the big deal was about them and why they are so expensive. Being curious myself I gave them a go and well I have to say they are foul.

Ummm. People still celebrate Valentine's Day? Oh yeah.

Ummm. Nothing planned. Stay indoors and stay away from crowds.

But, I LOVE all the relationship topics. Can't you start another seoulsearch?!?! ;)

I am not talking about either. In the first picture they are not all dark chocolate, and some are white "chocolate" which is not even chocolate.

Dear Kinda,

No worries.

I have several more down the hatch, I'm just waiting for the time to process and write them all out. :D

Forever and always (heart, heart, heart,)

Seoulsearch

Writing threads since 2009 and trying to see how long that streak can keep going! I always run out of time, but not so much ideas.

P.S. You're constantly writing comments in my threads... about how much you absolutely hate my threads. Why don't you just put me on Ignore instead? It would make your life a whole lot easier, just saying. Though I'm guessing you don't put me on Ignore just SO THAT you can make appearances every now and then to be able to picket against threads about relationships...

I mean... Singles, talking about dating and relationships and marriages??? Oh, the scandal!!! How dare they!!!:love::eek:

I do try to take breaks now and then so that it doesn't seem like I'm overloading the forum, so be sure to do yourself a little ditty ("'Bout Jack and Diane") during the times when I'm gone. :)

Pfft! This ain't NOTHING compared to a few years ago! This is just a little spatter of threads once in a while. Back in the day she used to go like this non-stop.

Ah, them were the days. Almost every day you could get up and check the forum and count on a new topic that was both a trenchant observation about humanity and a topic well worth discussing. Man I miss those days. seoulsearch doesn't post anything like she used to. Maybe it's because so many people started being so very good at fault-finding...

So... kinda... what kinda threads have YOU started lately? Anything worth discussing?

Looks like we have a lot of people here with excellent taste in Valentine treats. :)

Every year, I have my eye on the prize -- a nice big bag of the one, the only -- Brach's cinnamon jelly hearts!!!

This is my absolute favorite Valentine candy because this is the only time of year that you can find these. No other holiday (that I've seen) has the equivalent, except for rare times at Christmas when you can find a bag of mixed spearmint and cinnamon gumdrops. However, they are almost always gone by the time the big Discount Day rolls around (and I don't rush out looking for them right away anyway,) so I try to tell myself that it saves me money and calories.

Whatever happened to Brach's candies, anyway? I haven't been able to find them in stores for years :(, and Brach's was always the bomb! A few years I have almost been suckered in by bright pink bags of "jelly hearts", only to find upon inspection that they are actually cherry-flavored hearts (bleh) and have a smooth texture -- if I'm going to waste the calories on jelly candy, it's GOT to have a delecatable coating of ear-popping, teeth-breaking, munching and crunching granulated sugar, dang it! And, these cinnamon jelly hearts MUST BE Brach's. I learned the hard way that there ARE NO SUBSTITUTES.

Sadly, I hardly ever find them and usually just wind up consoling myself with a bag of half-off Hershey's Kisses or Peanut Butter Miniatures (the miniatures only!!! They have just the right chocolate-to-peanut butter ratio!)

For the sake of both my monetary and caloric budget, I try to limit myself to one sale-priced bag, but alas, sometimes I fall victim to two (or another undisclosed number.) After all, I have to have enough to last me through until all the Easter candy goes on sale!

I don't always stick to it, but I try to limit my candy consumption to only these times when I can find it "on sale", and in a limited quantity, so that truly makes these Hallmark holidays kind of special! :D

Brach's? You dare to mention good taste in candy... and Brach's... in the same post?

I still have a grudge against them for what they did to caramel. They took corn syrup solids, dyed them brown and called it caramel, and now everybody does it because it's cheaper.

I WANT MY BOILED CREAM AND SUGAR CARAMEL BACK!!!

Writing threads is also my way of trying to express my gratitude towards this site and the hard-working people who keep it running, so as long as God grants me ideas and the means to type them out, you can rest assured that I'll keep going. :)

It might just be me, but I assume sites like this run on audience participation, which is always the goal of my threads. People have often told me I should write a book or blog and it's very sweet of them to say so, but I'd rather spend my time and energy trying to spark discussions that encourage as many people as possible to participate and hopefully feel that their voice is heard.

And sometimes, even if no one answers, it's ok, because maybe that particular thread was meant to be read and not so much discussed. Either way, I'm not worried. Every thread is just practice for future threads that are still being formulated.

I write threads as part of my personal contribution to CC, and if I'm ever doing something wrong, should cut back, or change topics, I thoroughly trust and will follow whatever guidelines the site administrators choose to give me.

Until then, bombs away! :D

I would choose chocolate... a little bit of Mars and a little bit of Hershey’s. My go to favorite and sentimental place though is Sees Candies. They started out near my home town and has been a family favorite since I was born. Now they are nation wide. They use Guittard chocolate which is one of my favs. My mom use to give my brother and I the chocolate eggs for Easter and raspberry truffles for my birthday every year.
