I'm amazed that there are so many posts on this subject. This usually means it's made some people uncomfortable, though I don't know why.

I feel it’s important for me to speak up and at least try because I care whether or not people deceive themselves as they skip happily along on their way to hell. I will at least try to show them the truth.

NO, counterfeit faith happens in their HEADS, and not in their Heart.

1 John 2:19 (NKJV)
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.

I got news for you, most of us on this Thread, WE DO NOT SKIP HAPPILY ALONG THE WAY TO HELL.

Most of us are TRUE O.S.A.S. Believers. WE believe that WORKS has NEVER been part of SALVATION.
AT the same time, WE believe that our LOVING Obedience IS PART OF AGAPE LOVE, period, and nothing else.
NO, that does not mean we think we are Perfect, and we depend on 1 John 1:9, as we strive to walk as Jesus DID.
And we will not be PERFECT until we get that Glorified Body in the Resurrection!

So now my salvation is based on my state of mind? I guess I need to pray that I don't get dementia or Alsheimers. Or have a nervous breakdown. Or become brainwashed.

Now, I do believe that once saved, my state of mind becomes more like Christ & less like the old me.

I would suggest that the brethren here would search for the scriptures for the subject of servanthood, because Jesus taught it.:)

I have a suggestion for you, Base your SALVATION on JESUS DID IT ALL, which is PURELY GRACE, and the state of YOUR HUMAN HEART, (Human Spirit); and you will NEVER BE DISAPPOINTED.

2 Timothy 1:9 (HCSB)
9 He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NJB)
8 Because it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith; not by anything of your own, but by a gift from God;
9 not by anything that you have done, so that nobody can claim the credit.

Romans 3:28 (GWT)
28 We conclude that a person has God's approval by faith, not by his own efforts.

Romans 10:11 (NASB)
11 For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED."

John 10:27-28 (HCSB)
27 My sheep hear My voice, I know them, and they follow Me.
28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish—ever!
No one will snatch them out of My hand.

Free will to come. Free will to go.
True faith will never fail because you do not lose faith in someone who continually proves his faithfulness as God dies
mere belief lacking true faith fails because God is not work in that persons life so he is seen as even more untrustworthy and mere belief turns back to unbelief quite easily. As they depart from us.

It’s all free will. But it is all rooted in a persons faith or lack of faith and Gods response

John 6:66 From that [time] many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
Hi...
They were followers , but had no faith in our LORD , just like the ones who will say " Lord Lord , did we not to this and that " and He will say " Go away I never KNEW you "...

That happens when people don't truly believe in the first place. I have met people like that (online mostly); some were even in ministry and served for years, but then, it was as if God did not live up to their expectations, or they realized that they were only role playing and/or trying to live up to other people's expectations of them. They had not been born again of the Holy Spirit of God, and eventually walked away. Those I spoke to in that type of situation, were often very bitter and dead set against the Bible, religion in general, and Christianity in particular. They became maltheists. As a child of God, can you imagine yourself turning like that?

You are welcome :) That verse has been coming up quite a bit lately; I designed that panel yesterday :D
Hi sister...
It seems appropriate for these times we are in...
So many false preachers fallen away , being exposed for this , that and the other...
Your panel is timely...

Pride speaketh on this wise:

Mark
14:29 But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet [will] not I.
14:30 And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, [even] in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.
14:31 But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.

Humility speaks this way:

1 Corinthians
9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
9:25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they [do it] to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
9:26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring [it] into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

No. I am too good and pure and holy. I am like Peter before the cock crowed. We all look at ourselves through rose coloured glasses.

The Holy Spirit will keep us so long as we allow Him to. This is the way free will works. It does not lock anyone into a canary cage. The Holy Spirit is a gentleman.

Can a person who walks away as you believe return?

Yep
they Never had true faith in him. They followed him for other reasons that’s why they left. Just like Judas.
