While I totally realize that CCs intentions were to give people several emojis to react with, things have lately been getting out of hand. I recall when the red x first popped up. I would use it only when I believed what a person was saying was heresy, totally against what the Bible taught. Then suddenly people began to use it not because they disagreed with a comment, but as a weapon. I had several people, who are now banned, that would follow me around the forum and red x anything I said, even if it was straight out of the Bible!! I pop in today and see someone has given me ten thumbs down in a row, and I wasn't even speaking directly to them!! smh Hey, you want to disagree, do so. But people are using these emojis as a weapon. I feel that's a misuse of the emojis. Anyone else feel the same way? Understand, I'm not saying people don't have a right to use it, I just don't think you should be allowed to misuse it simply because you dislike that person. There is a difference.

Right. Well anyone who was not rooting for the left in a certain thread also received the same. That person claims to be a Christian from birth and resides in Africa so they apparently may think this site runs like fb or something.

We know that no one is a Christian from birth so apparently, they do not understand that either.

Just some very judgemental people joining lately and from other countries, who seem to want to dump on the US.

Oh, I'll get several. I'd consider it an honor from you though But you don't swim in the BDF or News waters. I've tried to be accepted by the single folks but they don't want old married ladies hangin' round. Still I'm envious, they have the most fun on CC. Don't think hubby would accept grounds for divorce as " I want to hang with the nice, fun single people on CC".

What you are describing is a popular manipulation tactic on message boards known as brigading, vote manipulation, or forum sliding.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the reactions are more than just flare to attach to posts, they factor into an algorithm. So when someone spams your comments with thumbs down it actually factors into the trophy system and how content is promoted on this website's front page. Meaning that if someone is unfairly targeting you then they are actually circumventing the built-in systems this site uses promote content.

I have witnessed some of the aforementioned things here. Vote manipulation on social media can be used as a personal attack or an attempt to discredit you by giving you a negative reaction.

Brigading is getting a group of people to attack someone else's posts.

Forum sliding is posting material so quickly that it removes otherwise good and high quality posts from visibility.

I've had 2 negatives from "newbies" (they've been here for like, less than a year) for the first time since being a member here. I knew it was used as a weapon, and I just didn't care. I ignored it and moved on with my day. It's their own issue that they're so angry and trying to tear people down.

Even though it's wrong, I just think it's important to remember that YOU'RE not doing anything wrong. I haven't seen you post anything hateful or distasteful before, so it seems that it's not something you're doing wrong and let it roll off your back, as hard as it is to do that.

Quite honestly I don't know if I've given you a red x, that thread got so bad I don't even know who I reacted to. I will read back and see where I reacted. But I'm really not talking about disagreeing with a post. If you feel you disagree enough to mark an X ok. But what I'm talking about is mis-using the x against the person not the post. I'm seeing a lot of that going on lately. Use to be rare to see the red x, now it's flying all over the place. So I'm asking, is it being mis-used?

'trophies' are meaningless - after you make 1,000 posts and receive 250 likes, there's no further 'awards' and they don't have any effect on anything. it's not even prominently displayed anywhere, you have to dig through someone's profile to see them. most of the people who were on the board when we migrated forum software automatically maxed out all of them. i think it was just a built-in feature of the forum software that couldn't be turned off.

the things on the front page are all sorted by 'most recent' -- as far as i'm aware there is no algorithm in the forum that 'promotes' posts threads or people that have a lot of positive reactions, and negative reactions don't do anything either.

of course, if i'm wrong, please correct me too

The awards/like/dislikes feature is not going to effect promotion of new posts/threads which you see at the bottom of the main page, that's what I'm saying.

I read back and you only commented a couple times in the thread that was just closed. I did appreciate this comment "Okay, Trump’s done a lot of stupid stuff, but I don’t think he should be punished, neither by hanging nor prison. His legacy is what it is and he will be judged by the people’s interpretation of that. " I don't think you said much that I disagreed with.
