What if Jesus is looking down frowning because many of those who proclaim they are celebrating his birth are actually celebrating their selves and their families?

A person on here posted his celebration for Jesus, it consisted of buying gifts for his family, having a dinner with his family, traveling to visit extended family, having a pot luck with Church family (which you see each week already), decorates a tree, and sends out cards.

Which one of those best represents the celebration of Christ?

Are many Christians just using "Christmas" as an excuse to celebrate their family?

Jesus said:
Luk 14:12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.
Luk 14:13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:
Luk 14:14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

AND what about the lies that are being told? How many "Christians" lie to their children and tell them take a fake man dressed in red, with a white beard and a sleigh brings them gifts?
Just proclaiming Dec. 25 it Christ's birthday is another lie. Because no one knows when Jesus was born. The Bible don't say.
Advent is a season of the liturgical year observed in most Christian denominations as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for both the celebration of the Nativity of Christ at Christmas and the return of Christ at the Second Coming. Advent is the beginning of the liturgical year in Western Christianity.

First off..why a tree? Why do we pu
A tree is ever-green. Symbolizing eternal life. Lights symbolize saints following the big star on top that symbolizes Jesus.

star at top of tree represents the Star of Bethelehem...some people place an angel at the top

at the time trees would have been the tallest landmarks.

I keep my trees outside though.

The christmas pine tree is a german tradition that the british victorian royals adopted. It became popular.
Originally they were used in miracle plays, two trees, one representing the tree of life, the other the tree of knowledge of good and evil. I guess people like to go for the second, gaudy, fake tree lol

You dont have to decorate a tree if you dont want to, in fact, its preferable you dont and appreciate trees when they are alive and look after them. Personally I think its sad that people cut them down because then the birds dont have a home.

Why do the symbolism? Worship Jesus.

I never said any one was damned if they do it. But realize that celebrating men’s traditions isn’t Biblical. Is setting up a tree Biblical and where in the Bible can I find that? Did the apostles do that and did hey even celebrate Jesus birth in scripture? No to both. I think we can and should teach Jesus birth..it is Biblical but celebrating His ‘birthday’ is not.

Why do you say merry christmas? What is the significance of that phrase to you.? What do you think it means.

I don’t watch a lot of tv...I would rather do other things than pollute my mind that way.
Again that is your opinion. I never said the Christmas tree was in the bible. I am speaking about honoring the birth of Christ, which is not unbiblical, now we're moving on to trees? Whats next the candy cane? There are many things the Apostles did not do we do today drive a car, fly fish, fly in plane. None of those things are listed in the Bible that the Apostles did. They did not attend an NFL game nor a world series, YET none of those thing are in the Bible. Doing them would not be unbiblical because the Apostles did not do them. Legalism is bondage, caused by those who have no peace or freedom in their walk with God. So they want others to be under this kind of condemnation.

Only our Father knows what is in the hearts of man. When we start thinking we know also, then we are in big trouble.

Allow others to honor the Savior in any form they choose as long as it is reverent. I am not going to even think about condemning my family.

I heard from some christians that the candy cane represents J for Jesus.

I mean you can find meaning in anything if you look hard enough.

For epiphany, what some people do is bake a cake and hide an almond in it, whoever has the slice of cake with the almond in it is 'king for a day'.

The other thing is you can even find the Bible in a pack of playing cards. Theres a song about it too.

You had to symbolize Jesus to communicate that. How do you not use a symbol to teach the Gospel?
No you don’t...just read the Bible or teach it. When you do that you will understand that the tree‘s symbolism is pagan not Biblical so no reason for it.

Why would anyone need to use a symbol when you tell people...
There is a God and He made everything you see..and even made you. That when He made the world there was no sin, everything was good. After God made man, man sinned against God and sin came into the world. The Bible says that all sin and fall short of the glory of God. Sin is something you do, say or think that doesn’t please God. That there is a punishment for sin..the lake of fire where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.

There is Good News..that news is that Jesus who is God, came down from heaven and took your punishment for sin. That He died on a cross..didn’t stay dead but is sitting at the right hand of the Father and who with His once for all sacrifice offers you grace and reconciliation to the Father. If you believe all this you have forgiveness of sins and a place among those sanctified by faith.

What symbolism is needed?

Ok. I think of the first reformers and the communities they founded and some that branched off.
So, you said mainstream denominations..yet refuse to mention their names?

If the Christmas tree is not in the Bible as a tribute to celebrating the birth of Jesus..then should we be doing it?

You keep bringing in false equivalencies...what does all that have to do with anything really? We are talking about if its Biblical to celebrate the birth of a God who is immortal just because He happened to be born on earth. It doesn’t seem to have been the huge issue then as it is now. The huge issue then was salvation through the blood of Jesus not that He needs a birthday celebration that includes nothing Biblical like decorating trees.

This is not legalism...purely common sense. If the apostles didn’t see the need to celebrate Jesus birthday and God didn’t feel it was necessary to inspire the Biblical writers to put a birthday celebration in scripture..than its wrong. Its not my opinion...I myself used to love christmas. Every year I would try to find the best christmas album and I would just love the whole season. It was God opening my eyes to the truth...His truth that made me realize it was wrong.
