Tongues have ended. Tongues are now only an indicator of rebellion against God. Tongues were an indicator of rebellion to the Jews and now they show rebellion in the Gentile church.
Where does the Bible teach such a thing, or do you think you have no need of scripture to back up your doctrines?

Why is it that people are offended and call those who disagree tongues is a gift used today as we see it in many churches as an attack.

has the church gown that weak we can not take criticism?

is our faith in our works, (speaking in tongues etc) or in Christ?

just asking.

Why are you so 'offended' when someone points out error? Can you not stand to read criticism?

Context determines the immersion into water, Holy Spirit or doctrine. The modern conception of baptism meaning water is just that a modern conception arising from the inability of the English translation of the Greek to reveal the intent of the original.

We can look at passages that mention 'baptism' but do not say 'in water', and then read that the baptism was in water to get a since of the word 'baptism.' If you ask a Jewish person about a mikveh without asking if they were mikveh'ed into the word or the Spirit, they are going to assume you mean water.

Let's take a look at Mark 7,
4 And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.

Who would think this means baptism without water?

There are other scriptures

John 3
23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.

John 4
1 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,

2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)

Is it reasonable to think that there was no water involved? The disciples were already baptizing in water as early as this.

Peter used water when he baptized
Acts 10:47
Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

So did Philip,
Acts 8:38
And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

Have you been baptized with water?

Who said I was offended?

I just asked a question, did my question offend you?

I was thinking the same thing about your post to SophieT that I was responding to. Why would you take her post as demonstrating her being offended? She was just defending the issue like other people.

Hardly baseless when you are so against the gifts of the Spirit. And as usual, some truth mixed in to sound 'proper'

What kind of truth proceeds from attacking anything related to 'tongues' or a few other truths in scripture?

Physician heal thyself
if she thinks I attack her I id do not see modern day tongues as a spiritual gift. Then she is offended.

so please, before you start attacking someone, try asking what they meant,

How would the gift of interpretation of tongues continue if tongues had ceased?

If you think 'tongues' in I Corinthians refers to translating English into Haitian French or Creole for those who understand it, why would that have ceased?

If you think preaching the word is prophesying, then how can you argue that prophesying has ceased?

You never did answer those questions. Your statements on this topic have been inconsistent with one another on this thread.
The childish nature of your questions. You wish to play word games taking advantage of the English translations of the Greek.

Tongues are languages. Interpretation of those languages in the modern era is a learned gift. Apostolic tongues and interpretation were given by the Holy Spirit in a unique fashion. Such unique gifts have ended. Ecstatic utterances were never apart of biblical tongues not the modern concept of praying in tongues.

There are no new prophets or apostles. If you wish to play word games with prophecy taking advantage of translational matters that is up to you. Prophecy as in giving new or unique revelation has ended. Prophecy as in teaching forth the delivered word of God continues.

You antics may be tolerated in the house church but in the greater body of Christ not so much.

It's right there in the scripture you claim to receive.

Water baptism after salvation is exactly what is taught in Acts:8:38. It is not required for salvation. Holy Spirit baptism is required to be saved. The Holy Spirit is received the moment a person receives Christ as Savior.

That's also ridiculous. There is absolutely nothing in Scripture to support this alleged change of meaning.

That's no true. Every good thing comes from God. Learning is a gift.

Translations into modern English do not distinguish the differences.

Pr 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

If you spoke in tongues you would certainly object to what is being said by several people here. I'm guessing you do not speak in tongues.

The church is weak because they profess in believing the Bible but have left much of what it states.

I have no idea why you mention works.

What exactly are you after here? You are putting words in my mouth and I doubt you would like someone to do that to you. I said nothing about any attacking me personally. I clearly stated that notuptome was attacking anything pertaining to tongues.

I'm starting to think that it might be YOU that is offended. As for me, I would say this thread is going just about par for the course as it does in any forum when this subject comes up. Kindly don't try to answer for me. Just ask. Don't talk about me to someone else as if I were not able to respond.

So the church is weak?

I probably should be offended you think my church, which is strong. And leads many to Christ, and is a pillar of the community and its members used mightily by God is weak because no one speaks in tongues. But I am strong I do not get offended when someone disagrees with me or think I am being attacked. I could which you felt the same way about your power in Cheist.

but like many tongues speakers. You speak of power, yet lack any true evidence of it, if you had real power, me or anyone else not believing on tongues would mean anything to you.

A wicked and adulterous generation seekers after a sign, and non will be given but the sign of jonah

i think we fit that generation

Speak for yourself.

I have NEVER EVEN ONCE asked for God to show me His power for me to believe in Him or demanded anything to cause me to believe in Him.

Something is lacking in your understanding IMO.

I'm not doing a back and forth with you. I'm straightforward and don't care to get caught in a net you have made up. You have the Bible and you can believe or not believe. It is YOUR choice.

I see you like to make false claims. Kindly find someone who enjoys defending themselves against false accusations. That would not be me.

You could have fooled me

I see no one attacking tongues, I see people who have a disagreement. And as usual, tongues people being offended and claiming they are attacked

i am not offended. Thats ridiculous why would I be offended? I feel Gods power and havewitnessed it.. maybe that offends you because prophesy and tongues were not involved?
