In the U.S., if the mother doesn't want the baby (and no one in the family does), the baby goes to foster-care (as there are no orphanages in the U.S. anymore). This is like throwing the baby to the wolves! Many foster parents foster children to get a monthly check from the government which can be substantial (hundreds of dollars per month, per child), not because they want to be a parent. As a result, many children in foster care run away, become homeless, etc. Whether or not the mother loves the baby is not always the issue (she naturally will), the issue is whether she can take care of the baby which is why many women choose abortion (they do not choose adoption as they will bond with the baby during childbirth). The mother may be uneducated, parents kick her out due to being pregnant, boyfriend threatens her because he doesn't to pay child support, etc. People easily say "give the baby for adoption" but do not understand the implications of putting the child in foster care. Christians should spend more time on improving the adoption process and quality, that will reduce abortions and put more children in adoption.
