this tells me that when i remember a sabbath, to keep it is to remember that i do not add to my sanctification either by doing or non-doing. it is He who sanctifies me. it is remembering -- that He faithfully gave manna in the wilderness, that when it did not appear on the 7th day i can trust that it will again on the 8th. that He completed the heavens and the earth and the host of them and saw that what He had worked was good. that i should trust, and rejoice in Him, and be full of thanks - anxious for nothing, keeping those things in mind
I don't think the Lord wants us to think of what we do to obey Him and live our lives as God tells us to live should be thought of as adding to our sanctification, that is a thought outside of the thoughts of the Lord. To reward us with salvation for our works is simply not part of the ways of the Lord. We are rewarded for obedience, but the reward for obedience does not include salvation.

That dosn't even make sense!

It really was a stupid way of expressing my thought, I agree. But we really should accept the people who think differently than we do about the Sabbath, Romans 14 tells us this. I'll not judge the people who believe in Sunday if they will please not judge me for thinking Christ did not change what His Father established, and that was to bless the last day of the week.

Only one day was bless and Sanctified, meaning it was set apart for HOLY USE, And that is the 7th day, our Saturday, all the other 6 days are working days as GOD worked 6 days and rested the 7th day in Creation, And YESUAH MEANS for us to keep the Saveneth day holy like GOD did in Creation, it is a memorial of HIS creation,
if someone is going to follow this to the letter, would it not also mean that people are sinning if they only work 5 days a week?

as it is, observing a certain day does not save

we are to rest in Christ, meaning His work is complete. we are a new creation in Christ and the original creation is no longer in the state in which it was created

yes -- we need to find the person and work of the Messiah in all these scriptures, and doing so, walk in Him. the testimony of Him is the right dividing of the word, and the imitation of His ways is the right practice of His word.

in Genesis 2:1-3 it looks like on the 8th day God sanctified the 7th. does this speak of Christ, of whom the 8th day is representative, the day of renewal and newness, justifying and reconciling creation to Himself? our faith is 'He has done it' - He accomplished and purchased our salvation. we can look at that holy 7th as His finished work; remembering it is remembering that it is He who sanctifies us -- which is what the purpose of the sabbaths given to Israel was, "a sign between Me and them" ((Exodus 31:13, Ezekiel 20:12))

this tells me that when i remember a sabbath, to keep it is to remember that i do not add to my sanctification either by doing or non-doing. it is He who sanctifies me. it is remembering -- that He faithfully gave manna in the wilderness, that when it did not appear on the 7th day i can trust that it will again on the 8th. that He completed the heavens and the earth and the host of them and saw that what He had worked was good. that i should trust, and rejoice in Him, and be full of thanks - anxious for nothing, keeping those things in mind
Exactly. The Sabbath rest points to resting in the Lord, not to doing or not doing certain things on any specific day.

We have even had Sabbath day pushers tell us it is a sin to worship God on Sunday

How ridiculous is that? :censored:

Agree'd. This however shouldn't be a platform to try converting anyone to our doctrine or agenda. If Someone continued harping on why statues are necessary in church or all Saints' day is a legitimate holiday alot of us would get tired and lower the boom on them. This is not SDA, Baptist, Pentecostal, Quaker or, RCC Chat.

Not saved by works (Romans 4:5-6; Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5; 2 Timothy 1:9 etc..) is central to my posts, especially when I'm dealing with people who teach otherwise. There are genuine Christians and there are "nominal" Christians.
Then there are wanna be christians

Lev 10:10 And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean;

Hebrews 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Which is exactly what people do when they try to marry Grace and Law, they trample the son of God! And his death. Which is what the law was supposed to point us to, not bring along side

crossnote,

What is your purpose for referencing the Romans' passage?
I would think it is to put the sabbath law inits place, paul warned is warning us, sadly at times neither side heeds the warning

You go on and on and on about works, yet when Christ saves us, when Christ lives in our hearts, works follow. Are there works for Christ as a result of Christ in our hearts, or are all works to be avoided because they won't save us? Make up your mind.
As usual, you take what some one says, twist it to make it appear he is saying something he has not even hinted at, and in the end, totally misrepresented him while missing the point he was trying to make

I keep praying one day you will maybe see what people are saying and stop looking through the lens of what you want to see,

If only you were not insinuating that the first person is not wanting to do as the Lord tells them or doesn't love the Lord as much, this would have been a really great post... I'm sorry it's so hard for you to believe people who are not in HRM or SDA also love/obey God...
I must admit I used to be this way, try to tell me an anti Baptist thought, and I could never hear you, and would make the same mistake.

how freeing it is when you let your guard down and just listen to what is said, not through your blinders, but through their words

As long as it's not Anti-Ana-Baptist we'll get along. OK?

Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
(Genesis 2:1-3)

if i might make just a few observations:

  • it doesn't say 'every seventh day' it says 'the seventh day' - what's the implication?
  • there's no imperative language here; no command to anyone, just a declaration. if anything is implied by His sanctification of the seventh day, it is applied by implication to "all which God created and made" - the heavens, the earth, all the host of them. if the squirrels still forage on a day, the birds still build their nest, the moon and the planets still course through the sky, is creation in disobedience?
  • it seems to have been blessed afterwards ? as in, on the 8th day He blessed the 7th - what's the implication?
  • the blessing is tied to the finishing of His work: there is an implicit connection to God's work being complete - that is, there is nothing to be added to it. the heavens, the earth, the host of them: complete. nothing to be added. cannot be further sanctified - He has done it. what then is to be remembered?
  • the simple statement 'God rested' is extraordinary - does God get tired? is His endurance limited? the answer to questions like these seems to be obviously, no! so 'rest' here applied to God doesn't carry the same connotations as it does when applied to us mortal beings.
I think it fits perfectly

creation was in a completed state, nothing could be added, so in this, God was finished with creation (he rested from his work because no more work was required)

in the same way, we, when we come to Christ, have ceased from our work, we are full saved, Gods work in our salvation is complete, neither God or us need to do anything further in our salvation process

now we move on to our sanctification, God and us work in unison to sanctify ourselves, working towards the final act of our process, which is glorification. Which will continue to happen until ressurection day, then we will rest from that

finally eternity, more growth more work, only this time, we will be perfect and learning in a perfect world without the flesh to hinder us

lol, your post brought back memories of Christmas on CC and the argument and defense that statues are statues but nativity scenes in the yard and ornaments were not a few years back.

There are fake Christians too!
Yep, also known as wanna be christians, they have many names, but most look the same,

1. they all claim to love God
2. they all base their christian life on following some set of rules
3. they love to judge true believer who walk by faith not by site
4. they love to puff themselves up will considering their sins a non issue, or outright denying they sin at all
5. they all believe salvation will in the end depend on how righteous we are in this life (faith plus works)
