Our faith is indeed activated by the hearing of the Word of God, but not all that hear believe. Why?

Are those of us who believe smarter, wiser, better people than those who do not believe?

That sounds like boasting to me!
The reference to ' boasting ' is referring to ' works ' v faith .

True but if you think about it works vs faith is related to those who hear the word and are not saved. Those who attempt to gain salvation by works are like those who hear the word but are deaf those by faith are saved by it because they don't just hear it with their ears they hear it with their hearts.

The difference i would see is as it says in 1 cor . " believing in vain " . Where as believing or obeying from the heart Rom 6.17 is different .

Paul glorified God for the wisdom God gave him, as we glorify God for our faith God gave us.
Yeah After he was saved .Our small child like trust is enough to obey from the heart ,the Truth of the Gospel . I believe God's truth is sufficient.

Hebrews 4:12

King James Version

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Order of salvation.
Which would be ?
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

Some would call Romans 8:29-30 the order of salvation: the acts of God and the response of the individual in salvation.

I see that we are predestined to be conformed is what promise we recieve after we believe . I don't believe anyone is predestined to be converted.

Predestined is predestined in all aspects.

... predestined to be conformed ... ( "after we believe" - you're insertion into scripture )

Only if we have converted. You cannot leave that out. Otherwise, it is the second death via the LoF.
Of course . Only those whom are known as sons are then predestined to glorification. The spirit of adoption is the guarantee that this will take place. This is the destination granted when we are in him .
