section 230 of the decency act makes it so that ChristianChat.com is not held responsible if you encourage people to revolt against the US government on it. you are responsible for your actions, not CC.
it means that if foreign or domestic terrorists post something on youtube inciting sedition or the violent overthrow of the government, youtube cannot be criminally charge for the content of their users.
this section of the law prevents facebook itself from being prosecuted when Russian & Chinese intelligence agencies make accounts on it and use them to promote Trump by spreading misinformation and inflammatory content against the DNC.
the law makes it so that when white-supremacists use twitter to threaten minorities with violence and physical harm, twitter is not criminally responsible for the content; the people who make the statements and post the content are.
of course moderators at CC, youtube, facebook, twitter, etc are free and able to exercise whatever controls they feel necessary or prudent to prevent or remove whatever content they don't want on their sites -- they are independent businesses and organizations and can self-police as they see fit and deem wise.
but according to the decency act, per section 230, they cannot be sued or imprisoned just because some user posts some criminal content on their site.

It's not a waste of time. The Senate judiciary committee is a very big dog with very sharp teeth. They can subpoena anybody in America anytime. And after the election they are going to redefine the law so that these tech companies can be SUED. And after they are sued then they will learn their lesson. And it would be a very simple matter to pass laws so that Social media is covered under the umbrella of the FCC, and must adhere to strict rules of fairness.
The first shot has been fired and wisely. And as usual it is only the Republicans who have the white hats.

have a look at my own facebook feed any day of the week and the political content is about 70% republican propaganda memes and 30% democratic propaganda memes. the percentage is a result of me having majority Christian acquaintances and the republican party having a decades-long history of preying on Christians.
facebook is a platform for user-submitted content. you have a lot of right-wing users in your acquaintance group, then you have a lot of right-wing propaganda being submitted, and the only people you're hearing from getting garbage taken down or marked as misleading are people who are only posting right-wing garbage.
left-wing garbage is also taken down -- but i'm gonna guess that you personally hardly ever talk to anyone ((if at all)) that posts things like that, so you hardly ever ((if at all)) hear about any of it being taken down, amiright?
