Welcome to CC, HHM...

I take it you're just getting started with playing guitar? I suggest that, if you are within driving distance, go to a well-equipped music store, explain your budget, and request to try a few instruments in that range. Ask about prices for used, and get one that feels good to you. I would recommend a music store over a private sale because they will be able to answer more questions and have the store's (hopefully good) reputation behind them.

The "feel" part may seem petty, but for a beginner, it's actually important. If you don't enjoy playing your guitar because it doesn't "feel" right to you, you won't want to play it, and you'll possibly resent having paid the money for it.

Also, don't worry about the guitar's appearance at this point. "Feel" is far more important. :)

Would it be good to include buying lighter strings to replace the manufacturer's strings? For me getting started, the lighter strings helped with chord transition and the abuse on your fingers. Helps prepare your fingers for other instruments or heavier strings.

Also in less you are the type to never give up then you may want to find someone to play with or learn from. It will help you grow, find encouragement and things get exciting when you begin to make music.

Classical guitar strings are also easier on the fingers :)
(Nylon as opposed to steel)

I've noticed that as my guitar/ukulele 6 string uke has 3 nylon and 3 steel.
That sounds like an interesting arrangement :geek: Are all ukes like that?

Of course with a classical guitar, the fingering is a little more spaced out, which can also be good as it gives more room for finger placements on the fret board, though you also have to stretch a little further :giggle: ... and transferring what you might learn on a classical guitar to a steel string/acoustic or electric guitar is not onerous at all.

Yes they are designed that way. I like it because it is small and I can carry it easier to practice on when I do not want to lug my full size acoustic guitar.

Fender. And I agree with Dino, feel matters most. I will say though, fender can take the punishment.
Just like your fingers are gonna be punished. Super glue on the tips works I hear, to compensate for the
abuse you fingertips will endure.

Try looking for music stores that are getting rid of stuff. I got my fender for 204 euros instead of 286 as they got rid of all guitars

Yamaha F310 are reasonable acoustic guitars at a low price. (Yamahas are usually well made even at the lower end of the price range, unlike many other Big brand names.) The suggestion you go check them out first is really
Wise though, but I would scour there reviews for Longevity of quality on any you like as not all age well. Epiphone AJ210CE is worth looking at as well if you fancy an electro acoustic but they are maybe a bit over budget. Yamahas generally would be my go to for a beginner. Second hand if possible.

Classical Nylon strung guitars are easier on fingers but have fatter necks so not
As easy to learn on on my opinion.

Don’t spend more than you need to on fancy strings, just get a low to middle Price Range set of lights or mediums and just focus on getting used to actually playing the guitar before you worry too much about much else. That’s all I would Suggest
