I use the bible knowledge of Tom Bradford who gives lessons free on the website torahclass.com. I find that he has freed himself from different church doctrines and speaks only of what he finds in scripture. If he tells of something that he only thinks is right he tells us so, and gives reasons for his opinion.
A study that fascinates me, now, is a study of the way the churches lived in the first 300 years after Christ, before Constantine changed Christianity. They use the writings of the Christians during that time.
The writings themselves are interesting, but I use the men who have studied them and can reach the heart of what they say. The men who write about that time say that Christians were closer to the apostles, taught by Christ, so the church was more powerful. When it grew, it lost much of its power. Others say that after the Romans killed off so many Jews and gentiles became church leaders they let their early training in idol worship and the occult influence them and contaminated Christianity. That is why, they say, Sunday worship was made to replace the Sabbath for idol worship was on Sunday.

Romans 3:14-18 (NKJV)
Paul continues quoting scripture that describes the unsaved or those that are operating in their flesh.
Their speech is full of death and unforgiveness.
They do not hesitate to hurt others but, quickly run to do evil to others.
Their lifestyle and paths produce only misery and destruction on themselves and others.
They have no peace with God, others or themselves but are the enemy of God, others and even themselves. They are tormented in their minds with nothing but negative evil thoughts.
They do not fear God because they do not know God or even consider Him because they do not seek Him.

Our ideas and dreamed up works are futile in gaining the Kingdom for it is bygrace we are saved by faith in Jesus, Yeshua. Any true works we are given to do for our eternal reward are gifts from our Father and executed only by grace, not by our will,
The most basic of all works given us is believing God, just as did Abraham, and it is reckoned to us as righteousness, reckoned to us.
Abraham may be translated as Father of the nations, thus we become children of Abraham by our gift of faith by grace.

The most basic of all works given us is believing God, just as did Abraham, and it is reckoned to us as righteousness, reckoned to us.

I agree @OIC1965, the law does reveal our sin to us which points us to Jesus Christ as the ONLY Savior.
Jesus Christ actually fulfilled the Law for us while He was on the Earth. Jesus is the Human Fulfillment of the Law that God gave to Moses and Jesus also fulfilled all that the prophets had written about the suffering Messiah.
This is why Jesus met with Moses and Elijah on the Mount of Transfiguration - to be examined by the Law and the Prophets. He passed His examination and was transfigured.
The last "work" to be accomplished and recorded in His Body for us was to die on the cross as the Lamb of God that takes our sin away. His sacrifice was accepted because He rose from the dead on the 3rd day. Hallelujah!
Now, whosoever will believe in the FINISHED WORK of Jesus Christ's Blood and Body for us shall be forgiven by all their sins taken away by His Blood and the righteousness of God imputed to them by His Body and they are forever eternally saved.
Jesus will seal, baptize and fill us with the Holy Spirit so we can learn to walk by the Spirit and not fulfill the lusts of our flesh....this process takes time by the renewing of our minds with God's Word and Holy Spirit.
We shall be spotless, without blemish at His return, amen!

No one can claim to not be under the law - all have sinned, there is NONE righteous. The Law proves to us that we are guilty. God already knows we are guilty, the Law is so that we can know we are guilty.
Again, the Law is that we can know we are guilty. None of us - Jew, Gentile and even Believer can fulfill the law on our own. ALL (Jew, Gentile and Believer) NEED the Blood of Jesus Christ to take away our sins and ALL NEED the Body of Jesus Christ for the Human Fulfillment of the Law - The Lord our Righteousness. Amen! Paul just finished establishing the fact that ALL Jews, Gentiles and even Believers are guilty of not obeying the Law and NO ONE is able to keep the Law on their own which is why NO ONE can be declared righteous by the Law.
So how can a person be declared righteous by God? Thanks be to God because He made a way for us to be declared righteous without us having to obey the Law on our own.
It is God's righteousness that we receive by faith through Jesus Christ, understanding that Jesus Christ obeyed the Law for us and with His Body gives us the Human fulfillment of the Law.
In the Body of Jesus Christ is the Righteousness of God FOR US that has been made known to us and Moses and Elijah are witnesses that Jesus Christ fulfilled the Law and the Prophets in his Human Body.
As stated in a previous post, on the Mount of Transfiguration, Jesus met with Moses and Elijah to be examined by the Law and the Prophets to see if Jesus had fulfilled all the Law and the Prophets concerning Him. He passed His examination and was transfigured.
Side Note: After The last "work" Jesus Christ had to accomplish and record in His Body was the death on the cross where He would pour out His Blood that takes away our sin; making us able to receive His Body which is God's Righteousness for us - the Human Fulfillment of the Law.
When the Father gives us faith to receive God's Righteousness through Jesus Christ, the faith He gives us is Heavenly knowledge with full understanding by the Holy Spirit that it is absolutely TRUE that by receiving Jesus Christ as Savior, Lord and King - He gives us the Righteousness of God.
Originally, God had only given the Law to the Jews but, with the Righteousness of God that comes by faith through Jesus Christ - God has made His Righteousness available to ALL - Jew and Gentile that choose to believe the Truth when the Holy Spirit makes it known to them.
Paul is just reminding us that according to the Law, ALL have sinned and cannot keep the Law therefore, ALL fall short of the glory of God.
Yet, Jesus Christ is our Redeemer! Even though NO ONE can be saved by keeping the law on their own, in Jesus Christ we can freely receive simply by God's grace (no works of our own to earn salvation) redemptive power in the Blood and Body of Jesus Christ that awakens our spirit, saves our soul and redeems our bodies from the grave!
God sent His Word to Earth, wrapped it in human flesh and He - the first begotten Son of God became the human propitiation (the One that would appease and take away from us the Wrath of God) by His Blood and we can only know and receive Him by faith - undeniable understanding that Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God that takes away our sin. God will pass over our sin when He sees the Blood of Jesus Christ.
By God providing a propitiation for us, God demonstrates His Righteousness - that we are saved by His Righteousness, NOT ours.
God is the ONLY ONE Righteous and the ONLY ONE that is just and the ONLY ONE that can justify all those that believe and receive by faith, the Blood and Body of Jesus Christ - the ONLY Savior for the whole world.

Paul also said the Law is lawful if used lawfully. It is not for the righteous, but sinners. It either condemns (if we ignore it) or it points us to Jesus.
It seems to me that John the Baptist personified the work of the Law.
