On the road to Damascus Paul wasn't repenting he was not asking Jesus to forgive him. He was carrying a letter he obtained to arrest Christians and was in full denial that Jesus was the Christ. That's the frame of mind Saul of Tarsus was in when the Lord appeared to him that day on the road which is different in regard that he(Jesus) loved him while he was in full denial of Jesus and bent on the arrest of Christians. I thought I would point that out because it's so different from what most of us would think would be the case.
That is why it is called "conversion" God reversed his thinking.

God knows that preaching the spiritual gospel to the natural man, before he has been regenerated, will fall on ears that cannot receive a spiritual gospel, and thinks it to be foolishness. That is why Jesus instructed his Apostles to go and preach the gospel to the "lost sheep"(God's newly born regenerated children) of the "house of Israel", which is "the house of Jacob", as God changed Jacob's name to be called "Israel", Gen 33:28. The "house of Israel" is comprised of people from every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation, Rev 5;9. Most, well intend christians, misinterpret the word "Israel" to mean the "nation of Israel".
Another component of preaching is warning to the unsaved. That's another reason why we preach the gospel to the whole corpus of men, saved an unsaved.

2Cor 2:16
To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume. And who is adequate for such a task as this?

Absolutely true. Later on Paul says that he was persecuting Christians because of "unbelief". I have heard someone on this thread (Bbrdrd or John 146 I think) state that Paul was obedient previous to the Damascus road incident and that's why Jesus chose him!

Works and merit-based solvation 101. If you keep dialoguing with these people the aberrant doctrine starts coming out in the wash. And the aberrant doctrine only comes out of the people who deny the doctrine of election! Very telling IMO.

You actually are... to be honest you would need to state.. "God saves His chosen sinners."
Actually, God does not tell us to preach the spiritual gospel to all mankind, because he knows that spiritual things will fall on deaf ears, if preached to the natural man, who thinks spiritual things to be foolishness, and he "can not" understand them, 1 Cor 2:14.

That is why Jesus instructed his Apostles to go and preach to the "lost sheep" of the "house of Israel", which is the "house of Jacob", as God changed Jacob's name to be called "Israel", Gen 33:28. The "house of Israel" and the "nation of Israel" are two different Israel's.

"the house of Israel" is comprised of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation, Rev 5:9.

There is a need that the newly regenerated babes in Christ be taught the knowledge of the righteousness of God, that they might gradually, grow into spiritual maturity.

Isaiah 28:9-10, Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, and there a little.

Paul like many had a zeal but not according to knowledge https://biblehub.com/kjv/romans/10-2.htm in that he saw himself doing an work to obtain salvation. On the road that day he acknowledged that error and believed his salvation to be the blood of the Cross. In another post here I explained that Paul,Peter me,you ect. were all saved at the Cross and not as some think examp. "when I was 18" or "I got saved last weekend" .... When and where they were saved and the day it dawned on them are not the same things.

The issue isn't that the context and other issues don't modify the plain text, but that those who support reformed theology apply an inconsistent hermeneutic recognizing contextual moderation of the text in some instances and others forcing a surface read disallowing contextual discussion. It's the latter that is problematic because all that happens in that is modern biases are introduced to the text.
Let me ask you again: what form of theology do you support if not reformed? Roman Catholicism? If you tell me then I can do some research on the matter. Perhaps it would be enlightening.

Another stake in the heart of works/merit-based salvation. Paul later says that his earlier works and deeds were rubbish. So much for his supposed obedience before Emmaus road.

You can see it,their works confess them. If they believe they were saved at the Cross, washed by the blood then they will give thanks and praise God. If they stumble at the very thing we speak of then they will set out to try to figure out how to "get saved". No one can thank God for a thing they don't believe they posses instead they will seek after it. Those who deny the blood of the Cross seek salvation and don't realize they are denying the salvation of the Cross.

That is called "conversion", which follows the new birth.

My new birth, hit me like a ton of bricks, there and then,instant,......God bowled me over and I fell in love with him instantly......my spirit recognised His again,instantly...a natural receiving.

Gave my life there and then.....28 yrs...

It is actually hilariously tragic...GOD WILLED me to be saved and POOF I WAS.....so false....if that ia the case then no one is lost....God would have ALL MEN TO BE SAVED and come to the knowledge of the truth....they are too false and obstinate against the truth to see their own error....it is sickening and straight from the pit!
Saved, according to Greek, means "delivered". When new spiritually borne babe in Christ "comes unto a knowledge of the truth" they experience a deliverance, right then, when they understand the truth. The deliverance they receive is not eternal deliverance, because they already have been given that.

A man is a bag of flesh and bone and when he closes his eyes the spirit of the man inside. His spirit inside says to his hands to get the bread and the bag of flesh obeys. It does not throw the bread over his head but puts it in his mouth as his spirit said. One man says to his bag of flesh it should put it's clothes on for today is the day it will get saved. While another man says to his bag of flesh "leap with joy and give thanks for the Lord saved me on the Cross", and today praises God and give thanks. A man tells his bag of flesh to do the thing his spirits heart believes. One man holds his hands into a cup and ask for it to be filled and another man looks at his overflowing.

This is difficult to explain in person let alone over the www,,,,look real close at the works you are telling your body(bag of flesh) to do. It does exactly what your spirit is telling it to do, it is an faithful servant to your spirit. If your spirit don't believe Jesus saved it on the Cross it will tell that bag of flesh to "get saved" and it will obey your spirits command.

And read this heresy below ..... all I know is there is an "evil being" written about in scripture who would seek to bind, hide the Gospel from men hearing and being saved.

I can barely tolerate this nonsense anymore and I post less and less ... they speak about the "lost man" not wanting truth such irony!!

It is the Calvinists that do not want TRUTH.

John 12:32
And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all (men) unto me.
All of who? Certainly not the unsaved!
Continue reading.. it is made clear all who chose to believe.
