How Should Christians Vote?

"The Church represents the Kingdom of God just as the Captain of the Hosts of the Lord. But too many of us have chosen sides."

Unfortunately the church is staffed by human beings and shares their fallibility and is seen to take 'sides' in many areas outside of its calling. In the world God has called us to live in we have, with God's help, to do the best we can in the most difficult of circumstances for we are told to render unto both God and Caesar - albeit imperfectly.

According to Romans 13:1-2 God himself institutes governments.

"1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment."

Meaning that while God may or may not agree with a particular government ideology like liberalism or conservativism, he does institute their existence.

It is my belief that Christians should always vote for the government God wants. While governments may have their hands in evil practices, they also do good things as well and are composed of imperfect people as you correctly stated.

Also, Christians should obey government regulations unless they require sinning by law. Peter, a disciple of the Lord, said in Acts 5:29 “We must obey God rather than men."

So in our effort to obey God rather than men, knowing that God institutes governments, should we make a prayerfully informed decision? Yes! I think so. Therefore, since people are imperfect no matter where we look to we should vote for the party who most closely aligns with the morality of God.

If we are looking for God-like perfection in a government then we will never find it on Earth unless God himself institutes it.

Nowhere in scripture does it say that life in the flesh will be easy and certainly a Christian life consists neither in its length of days nor in the ease of body.

Do not be surprised or even distressed by anything anyone says about Christians. We have been warned in advance by Jesus as recorded in Matthew 10:22-25 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come. The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?

The Bible says that to end disputes you draw lots. Which was what they kind of did for the 12th apostle, Matthias and then God ended up picking Saul (who became Paul) and nobody even voted for him.

huh. former pharisee and all that, although he was born into it. But what choice do WE as human voters have to change anything? a man could be voted in, and then can easily just change his mind on all that he promises when he gets in power. cos hes depending on votes. isnt this just people pleasing?

Once I find a candidate that believes in and practices the Sermon on the Mount then I will vote for them. Until then I won't vote.

I was browsing through some threads and I saw this one And clicked on 194335 and 4352959. I’m so terribly sorry and humbly Apologize, that was not my attention. I thought I clicked on Liked but being new I’m still getting used to the site. Again please accept my sincerest apology, I will be more careful. If I do it again I will send you my address (even though my town is so small you probably couldn’t find it) and you can come kick my behind :)
