So, I was thinking with all the negative stuff going on in the world, how could I stay positive?

Here is my idea......

Write a resume highlighting all your service deeds to God.
Let HIM know that, I'm on your side God.....Even though I'm a terrible sinner. That sort of thing.

Just basically explain how you are walking with God through all the years. Like a Christian Biography.
This is your faith, so it should be beautiful.

I have trouble seeing this as anything but braging about your works.
And do people really need to write a resume to God to affirm their commitment to Him?

I think you're moving towards a good idea, but I have to agree that what is presented sounds more like it would lead to bragging, pride, and spiritual one upmanship than anything uplifting or godly.

Though sometimes God and I do go on trips down memory lane revisiting kind of the highlights of our journey together (more what he's done than I've done, but when I get down on myself he likes to remind me of things I did that prove I'm not as bad as I think). And a lot of revisiting how God has provided the simple daily things, and remembering that he is still big enough to bring good suprises my way. So maybe we can derail this onto a better track:

1) Other than salvation, tell the story of one of the biggest changes / turning points God led you to in your life.

2) Tell about a time when God came through for you, though you didn't expect the gift he gave.

3) Tell about a time when God answered a prayer the way you wanted it to be answered

4) Tell about a time when God answered a prayer in a way you didn't like but are now greatful he knew best.

That should lead to some good stories.

This a great starting place. Perhaps what he has done for me would be where I would start. At least for my own personal exercise. Something like the alphabet game I started in Misc.

I can't really make lists because, depending on my mood, they can have a dubious motivation.

Thanksgiving though is an excellent thing to cultivate in one's life.

When I was growing up on the American holiday of Thanksgiving our family would go around the table asking for one thing you are thankful for. In the last 10 years the only thing off the top of my mind that I said was "clouds" because I really like that the Lord made clouds. What a super creative way to give us rain.

Then in a way this type of thinking can give me a boost too because it causes me to be pretty grateful for how he made me and that if nobody else gets me or speaks my language...the Lord does. It creates some pretty cool moments.

Thanks for this, perhaps that's not what you had in mind but I like the personal direction :)

While I agree with Subhumanoidal... to a point... about the bragging part, I do understand the spirit this thread was started in.

Walking out of the valley
Goliath on the ground
Back to Jerusalem David went
He took the head of the giant
And left it in the city
But he kept Golath's armor in his tent
I wonder if maybe down the road
On David's weakest day
He pulled out that old armor
And listened to God say

Just a reminder
Of what I've done for you
Just a reminder
I'm still with you
I'll never break a promise
That's something I can't do
So in case you've forgot
About My love
Here's a reminder
Just for you

About that "Footprints" story, the ending I heard was:

"But God, what about the times when there was only a double furrow dug into the sand?"
"That was when I had to drag you, kicking and screaming, through the parts of life you hated but made you into the wonderful person you are today."

my Christian Resume:

For by Grace was I saved through faith; and that not of me: it was a gift from God: Not of any works I did, lest I should boast. For I am His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto GOOD WORKS, which God Himself hath before ordained that I should walk in them.

(if this sounds a wee bit familiar, see Ephesians, Chapter 2, vs. 8, 9, 10)

I'm glad you know the Bible!

That's funny and has a ring of truth in it.

Paul said it isnt our strengths we boast about...it's is our weaknesses.

And I am plenty weak. I couldnt shoot straight or punch anyone if my life depended on it. But He protects me.

Okay...I'm going to be a bit of a smartaleck....

I pray very wordy, lengthy, pious prayers...not poorly worded or unintellegible mumblings.

I tithe regularly and am proud that I don't just give a little like some others.

I will be the first to stone a sinner, if their sin requires stoning.

I show love to others...if I think they have something I can use for my benefit!

Okay...that should be a good start. I'm just having some fun with this.

But remember...our most righteous works are as filthy rags.

Nice. Thanks for being "brave" enough to post your "resume". It was more of an exercise to show where your faith is at. Might be more reasonable to write this like a love letter to God, but you don't have to post it here.

I will be sure to stay in a steel reinforced concrete buildings....lol
