For me I recognize it all as fiction. So when I watch something like Game of Thrones I have no reason to feel any conviction because I could recreate a similar story using biblical parallels.
You can recognize it is all fiction that expresses their believes as all our actions are, but it is what is feeding the mind.

A study of how the mind works tells us we have a sort of filter that we develop as we accept the principles that guide our life, but TV has opposing principles to God's principles that is being constantly pounded into the group mind. Children haven't developed these filters, so each generation of children fed on these things become progressively opposed to the principles of the Lord.

Even our educational programs for children are based on excitement, not on quiet learning and faith.

Well I am certain it has no negative consequences in my emotional intelligence, my spiritual life, or my cognitive processes. I watch about 30 minutes of tv a day and a movie or two over the weekend. So it takes up very little of my time. I personally have no reason to question the majority of mainstream stuff.
