we are a small country and we know the virus got in to ours somehow through american frozen food. if you have nanotechnologists on the case they could probably find it rather than trying to blame people for doing what they can to get rid of the virus.

because the virus spreads via hosts eg infectious people, minimise risks means stopping its spread by restricting travel.
isolating means quarantine
eliminating means getting the virus to die out by killing it (without killing the host)
when an outbreak happens you need to act and take measures. If you dont act there is more risk and danger to everyone. the virus dont care about what people do for a living, or how much money they make or what kind of person its in, it just wants to spread.

in the early days when the outbreak started in china the airlines were on alert but many didnt take quarantine measure seriously. thats how it spread.
it used to be before entering a country you entered on an ISLAND first, stayed there for two weeks, had. a medical FIRST before you were even allowed to enter the country. we had these islands as quaratine for plants and animals. sometimes it would be months before they were allowed in. with international travel being so lax about the health of people entering and exiting, its easy for virus to spread, especially when people only self report symptoms.

The problem is that no virus has been proven. All that has been demonstrated is that people in New Zealand have tested positive to a test. There is no proof of any virus in American frozen food. The obvious conclusion is that the test can return positive results for different causes (e.g. non-viral sicknesses).

I dont have a statistic but an in hospital observation. We had a Covid code on Friday. 5 more in our ICU. We arent a huge hospital. 150ish beds. Once people are sick enough to need supplemental oxygen, they come to the ED. Without oxygen a person would suffocate at home with O2 levels plummeting. Some patients at this stage will be sent home with supplemental O2. Hopefully for some, this is all that they need while their body fights the virus.
Depending on the disease state, Supplemental O2 eventually may not cut it. Once admitted the next step can be a non-rebreather mask. This provides a higher conc. of oxygen. If the patient's O2 levels are still slipping this is where the decision is made about mechanical verntilation. It is the disease that has trashed the person's lungs that brings them to this point. I dont think a lot of people die at home as our life saving instincts kick in before one would suffocate without medical intervention.
Ventilators will not save a person by any means. They are just a part of a progression of all kinds of intervention available if your desire is to be a "Full Code". This is why it is a good conversation to have with family members, Covid or not, as to how much intervention you would want if you ever were in this situation.
