Does the Bible say that the Lion will lay down with the Lamb?

I was having a conversation with some people at a table a couple of years ago and I mentioned that I think the scripture actually says that the Wolf will lay down with the lamb. A young man began laughing me to scorn (yes that is what he did :eek:) and I realized that sometimes we can be so sure our own bible knowledge and yet be following a popular saying instead.

But we were both off a bit. It actually says...
Is 11:6-9 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

Before Adam sinned against God, do you think all the animals were herbivores?

If so, then yes, this would be fulfilled literally in the millennial reign of Christ from Jerusalem

You've touched an important point. That is, what does scripture actually say? So many of us want scripture to say something it doesn't that we add and subtract.

Needless to say, Isaiah 11:6-10 deals with the Millennial Kindom, or Messianic age (since Isaiah is written to Israel).

Should we quote men who abuse scripture? Who twist the meaning of scripture? Should we say this is a good quote when he does?

no one thumping their Bibles and using scripture to disguise an anger problem

You are right. But we have the full spectrum of Christians on this Forum, from babe to the mature. The mature ones have gotta make some space for childish pranks. Just the other day, in a moment of exuberance, I told my wife that so-and-so "had met his Moses". A rather common saying, but probably not so appropriate.

The good thing about Woody Allen's stupid remark is that it has highlighted the coming Kingdom. I guess at least 20 readers did not even know about this future Kingdom on earth. Now they're asking (unseen by us of course). It also confirmed that Woody Allen is not the brightest. If the wolf "DWELLS" with the lamb, then sleeping, eating and talking in each other's company is a given. And the leopard "LYING WITH" the kid implies that the kid was also "lying" and that there was no tension.

This is a case where people hear someone they respect saying this is what the Bible says and their faith in who ever it was that informed them leads them to believe something that is false.. People are faulty.. Yes it is good to listen and consider everything people say but you always need to take the responsible move and check what ever you hear against what is actually written in the scriptures.. (y)
