Why would anyone have to will themselves into grace, when grace is freely offered

The decisional regeneration error stems from the teachings of Charles Grandison Finney.
He taught that salvation was achieved no differently than choosing which career to follow. I've heard preachers teach similar things, not aware their teachings were influenced from hand me down Finney errors. They would teach faith is like when you sit in an chair, or cross a bridge. Nope. That's normal carnal trust, faith is a supernatural gift of God.
Many Princeton theologians among others lamented his teachings, claiming it made false converts. He also lied his way into ministry.
Note Jude speaks of false teachers "creeping in unawares." That is exactly what he did.
I heard, but am not certain, but hope it's true that Finney repented of his error late in life.

You may know I disagree with the free will verbiage... since our will is constrained in many ways, by factors too plenteous to enumerate, some of which are unknown to us. However, God's will and self will are plainly laid out throughout the whole of Scripture. The point concerning choice is whether we choose to align with God's will, or choose to oppose God's will. Adam clearly chose to oppose God's will, and God not only allowed Adam and Eve to make that choice, He had made provision for it from before the foundation of the world. How any Christian could argue against that is perplexing.

God can draw you.
But you have the choice of not responding to that call from God.

However now I will play along with and entertain a philosophical argumentation: Let's say Adam did choose to sin. OK. Well, that doesn't mean he can choose his way into salvation, or that man can either.
The bottom line is all that "choosing" has been proven incorrect by examining Scripture.

I said, "God's Authority is BASED on LOVE" which means He is just and fair and kind and merciful - all in right balance and measures because of His great love for His creation. God is the MOST HIGH - no one out ranks Him. He has ALL AUTHORITY and gives some to whomever He chooses to do so according to His good pleasure and to accomplish His plan and purpose.
SECONDLY, Habakkuk cried unjust only to reconsider after he entered the sanctuary and inquired of the Lord - Habakkuk learned he was wrong and God is JUST. So, it is TRUE that we CAN TRUST GOD's AUTHORITY because we CAN TRUST HIS LOVE - even correction is LOVE.
THIRDLY, my understanding of PRIDE is NOT incorrect. Pride elevates itself not only above other people but, also above God. Pride is the abomination that causes desolation in the Human Heart - the Human Temple of the Holy Spirit.
Pride is always trying to save itself and thinks it can manipulate God with good works....self righteous good works. When Jesus separates the sheep from the goats and all those "goats" start telling God about all their good works and that God must be mistaken......
FOURTHLY, DorothyMae - Isn't it the goodness of God that leads a person to repentance? YES, LET GOD SAVE YOU. God FIRST loved us.......clearly understanding God's love for you will lead you to repentance.
It's time to repent of foolish pride, humble ourselves, stop all the judging and condemning of people that love God and just simply let God save us - it's HIS WORK that is a GIFT for us......The Gift of Salvation.
Just a side note, you would love reading the Book of Nahum. It's full of God's judgment, anger and wrath.

Jesus said all the drawn come to him, and he will raise them on the last day. John 6:44. That text also proves eternal security in addition to all that are drawn will be saved.
Nowhere does it say some didn't choose, and I am not about to add that into what Jesus said, I'm going to go only by what he stated.

All men can be drawn, but:
...all men have not faith (2 Thessalonians 3:2).

HE CERTAINLY KNEW WHAT SIN WAS, HE and EVE HID IN THE BUSHES AFTER HE SINNED. HE WILLFULLY SINNED, then ADAM tried to shift the blame to "THE WOMAN YOU GAVE ME." Oh he knew alright, and he did it anyhow.
