Self defense is biblical, do you have a wife, a daughter are you telling me you would not defend them against being assaulted?

Being persecuted for our faith is different than self defense... there are many cases in scripture where people defend themselves.

Jesus’s disciples carried swords, even after three years of traveling with Jesus.
And Jesus told his disciples not to use their swords EVEN WHILE HE WAS BEING ARRESTED. I know what Jesus taught, so your rationale holds no truth. I am ignoring you and the others on this thread who have decided to take the law into their own hands instead of following the teachings and life of Jesus Christ.

May God have mercy on your soul!!

That was particular situation and it does not apply to all situations.

when the police do not respond, as has been happening, there is no law

when marauders canvas private neighborhoods hoping to do harm and the police do not stop them, there is no law

when buildings are burned and looted there is no law

when police cars are vandalized there is no law

when hooligans throw bricks and bottles and incendiary devices at police there is no law

when a mayor cancels the police and then pays for private protection for herself from public funds, there is no law

I could go on, but I don't think you are much of a listener

personally, I don't feel sorry for anyone shot trying to invade a private house to cause bodily harm or steal. that person is doing the will of his father, the devil

you do not have to shoot to kill, but, if you are charged by a knife wielding individual, I would say that individual gets what they are asking for
I listen to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, not people who go against his teachings. He said to love your neighbor as yourself and to turn the other cheek. Anyone who disagrees with Christ and takes matters into their own hands instead of trusting God may call themselves Christians but they are not.

Do you have the book of Revelation in the back of your Bible? For that matter do you have a Bible?

Read what Jesus does to His enemies. Read the Old Testament. Alot of killing goes on at God's directions. You are interpreting scripture to create a false narrative. Read what Paul wrote concerning the end of those who thumb their noses at God. Read Romans 1.

You are way out of line and trying to make God sound like a simpering coward. Guns do not have to kill. If you say guns are only for killing, once again you are creating a false narrative. If a policeman is a Christian and he/she shoots someone, in your story he is sinning? There is no sin for him if the shot is warranted and no sin for the person using a gun for the same reason.

I would like to see someone like you stand by while his family is molested, his wife raped and perhaps killed while you recited 'Our Father' from the side. Protecting oneself is a natural reaction. Denying that reaction indicates something lacking in your understanding both of scripture and the natural desire of a man to protect what is his.
Why don't you try reading your Bible, particularly the New Testament? If you have no faith and don't trust God that is your problem, not mine.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
Edmund Burke

To do nothing is sin when faced against pure evil.

And your Scriptural references for these statements are ..?

If you can't cite the Bible teachings for your views, I don't think that anybody on ChristianChat cares what you post. I certainly don't.

Let's see now. Obviously if I tell you what would help your understanding as to what God says, I do read AND study the Bible. In more than one translation. Again, what is Revelation to you? An after school brawl? How can you not understand what happens to the enemies of God ?

What does the Bible say about the father of lies? That is the devil and all those who follow him and lie and steal and destroy are not God's children. They are the devil's children and the devil is their father.

You make Christians ashamed when you state you would not defend your own family. Christians defend this nation. They go to war and they are police and they defend those who depend on them. Doesn't your family depend on you? Or maybe they know they cannot depend on you?

Your views are not biblical and accusing others of having no trust in God emphasizes the fact your stance is so weak you cannot properly answer the questions that have been asked of you but instead resort to childish and baseless accusations.

Really? You have interpreted what Jesus has said in one thing only and disregard the rest because you may not have what it takes to protect others. Would you call the police? Actually you cannot call the police because that would make you a hypocrite.

Do you have insurance on your house or car or maybe life insurance? If you do, then you are a hypocrite. You just have to pray, right? You don't need insurance.

If you turn the other cheek while your wife or daughter or son are being killed, that makes you a monster. Don't you take matters into your hands every single day? Every decision that you make and follow up on is YOURS. God does not send an angel to you daily with instructions for the day.

What you are really doing, is hiding behind a false religion of pacifism that is not godly and that provides you with an excuse to blame God if things go south.

I stated what the couple said and facts of what happened and Mr. Jaybo gives it the red x. Apparently there are only certain facts he likes.

Nehemiah 4:13-14
So in the lowest parts of the space behind the wall, in open places, I stationed the people by their clans, with their swords, their spears, and their bows. And I looked and arose and said to the nobles and to the officials and to the rest of the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and
fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.”

Psalm 144:1-15

Of David. Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle; he is my steadfast love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield and he in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me. O Lord, what is man that you regard him, or the son of man that you think of him? Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow. Bow your heavens, O Lord, and come down! Touch the mountains so that they smoke! ...

Joshua 11:20
For it was the Lord's doing to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, in order that they should be devoted to destruction and should receive no mercy but be destroyed, just as the Lord commanded Moses.

“If the thief is caught while breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there will be no bloodguiltiness on his account. But if the sun has risen on him, there will be bloodguiltiness on his account. He shall surely make restitution; if he owns nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft” (Ex. 22:2-3).

“But be sure of this, if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into” (Matt 24:43).

It wouldn't help. Others have flooded in with Scripture. You will ignore or deflect. Doesn't matter. As long as you can consciously feel good about letting the innocent die then you have that freedom. I'm just thankful most do not.

So un-Christian to try and prevent millions of deaths.
Watching the news now. One of the people in the crowd has a sign that says " respect us". Rather rich considering they broke the law by busting down a gate and trampled on private property, threatening the home owners. They were 100% in the wrong and the couple was within their rights to defend themselves and their home. Anyone with half a brain can see that.

Isn't it though? Apparently King David was a bad dude too.
Yep, there wasn't a problem until he murdered his adultress's husband. But this is all on the difference in commands for the individual, the church, and government. David was acting on the government's behalf. Where as the disciples to carry a blade was for self defense on the roads between towns as bandits often waited for easy targets.

Respect is earned not given. Burning, looting, killing, chanting death to police, demanding a list of changes or else we will tear it all down is not deserving of respect. It deserves the treatment of terrorism. No negotiations.

I believe in the fairness and judgement of God. It's unfortunate that you, out of fear, disagree with the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Are you saying that if some one came into your home and raped your wife, you would not defend her if it meant killing the intruder because it is the "fairness and judgment of God"?

Does she know how much you love her?

This is always good to know but under civil unrest and if the police are gone, it will be survival. Many of the liberal self-defense laws only hurt the innocent.
Well, I live in Florida and have a 'stand your ground law' currently on the books. I am not required to retreat to avoid using deadly force.
If I have a reasonable fear of being harmed, killed, or of another being harmed or killed, or even to prevent a 'forceable felony' - robbery - I can use deadly force.

In fairness what I would consider 'reasonable fear of harm etc' being 5'8" tall, 155 pounds and 69 years old will be different from a younger person or perhaps someone with MMA training or other means of self defense.

I think it would be a very good idea to have a security camera system in place to verify use of force just in case something does go sideways.

This is an interesting read.
