I notice the guy in that picture is not holding a Family Feud card...

As a guy I don't know if I'm qualified to answer questions in this thread. :sneaky:

Some of the churches I have been to probably fit into the prosperity gospel category. These were churches I went to as a teenager with my family. We have learned better now. Some of the things they said were similar to what Joel Osteen preaches. Basically that God wants you to have a good life and a happy marriage and a prosperous career.
LOL I have since learned that this isn't the case.

Oh and there was one preacher that said things like Autism and HIV were demons and that if you cast them out then the person would be healed from those things. o_O This preacher believed that God wanted every Christian to experience complete healing in this lifetime.

Doing Christmas plays as children and having the three wisemen visit Jesus in the manger. I was in my early 20s before I found out that they didn't show up until a year or two later. My nativity set is a lie, lol. I now set it up with the wisemen on a bookshelf nearby. My son still shakes his head every time he sees it and says it will be a chapter in his book, lol.

Same for me! The last Christmas play I participated in at my old church did it correctly finally lol

Were there still three wise men? The number is not mentioned in Scripture.

"Three wise men" is assumed, presumably due to the number of gifts given :)

That God WILL multiply back to you what you give Him. Typically in terms of money and/or possessions.

Like investing in the stock market.

Note: I didn't really hear this in a brick-and-mortar church building, but rather on TV. I didn't really buy into it then but I didn't understand Scripture well enough to effectively refute it.

That if you follow the magic formula courtship + being pure at wedding = fairytale life with your spouse.

They forgot to mention that people make choices that can really screw that up. I know alot of broken families with one spouse left in tears trying to raise a family while the other is off living the single life.

Sunday Sabbath.

This one made me mad. It seems my whole childhood was ingrained in me that Sunday is the Holy day and you are suppose to goto church on that day.

I believe someone game me some literature at the beach and went home and read it. I actually opened up a dictionary and looked what day is the seventh day. Sunday said, it's the first day of the week, and Saturday is the seventh day of the week.

I was about 19 at the time and told my friends about it, I wasn't really a Christian than (rejected God after believing), and told my friends who also grew up in church (who also rejected God, being raised in church). They didn't believe it. The dictionary is not gonna lie to me. Well, I didn't think it could.

Felt totally ripped off. Like someone was lying to me my whole life and it fooled everyone around me.

Regardless on what day you goto church, this is something that should be learned. Still feel a little burned about it, that is like straight up contradiction.

Somethings seem riddled, but the law is not something that can be twisted. You either believe it, or don't. No two ways about it.

Yes, I know we all fall short, but knowing what is right, or what is wrong is fundamental.
