! Everywhere I looked on the bargain table at the bookshop tonight was Star wars books! I had never seen so many, and so few Star Wars fans ever come to buy them.
What is going on. There are annuals and encyclopedias and little pop up books, and sticker books and visual dictionaries and early readers and lego ones. star wars was never a science fiction book right? its just a movie. Cos I've never read it nor heard of it and its not among the classics that I know of.
Like Dune or War of the Worlds or The time Machine or The Little Prince or Brave New World.
Please someone explain.
Lol well all I can say is welcome to the wide world of Star Wars !
Yep, been books as long as there have been movies! Back when George Lucas owned everything, before the Mouse began his rule with an iron fist, there were authors that wanted to add to the story line of books. Pre-movie story lines, post-movies story lines. They had to run them through his people before doing them. Some were better than others. I read one by a lady that turned it into more of a love story thing and made Luke weak, not my favorite author. Some were quite well done. They were under the heading of Sci-Fi. It became so much more then the movies, books, video games, cartoons, monopoly games (I have a trivial pursuit version that has a digital "dice" r2d2, you push down the head, I think he beeps a lot and it "randomly lands" on a number). The game is not completely accurate in the answers, but enough to play it. Chess sets, and the list goes on. Then there is the fan based theatrical troops that go to places they are asked to go in costume and, in exchange, they raise money for worthy causes. The movies were a mere jumping off point, they took on a life of there own and the fans continue to breath life into them in a great many ways.
Hope this sheds some light on this world that is out there and helps others to understand it some that might not have known it has long since out grown the big screen....
