Not sure what you think this text means: it is a present tense in the Greek, so it comes out something like this: the one who has been born out of God does not keep on (practice) sinning, for the seed of God keeps on remaining in him, and he cannot keep on practicing sin, because he has been born out of God.

But I do not think John means that it is OK and normal and right for the Christian to just commit a few sins as long as you do not make a practice of sinning. That would go against the whole spirit of the book of I John. I think that what he is trying to say is that sin in incompatible and incongruent with who a Christian (with a new nature) is a child of God.

So if you asked John: Do you sin? or will you sin in the next week? -- I think he would answer something like this: "I am not planning to sin . . ."

Anyone born of God does not commit sin. Yet its "refuses to practice". No.. the new man which is created in righteousness and true holiness. I believe can not sin. Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

Yes I believe Christ died for all sins. But that sin He died for.. is still sin. Still hurts Him. And get over it.. this flesh was not changed one bit. Before Christ even died He told some "go and sin no more". Satan can not make anyone sin. He can not go against mans will.

Sorry we all have to watch our selfs every moment. Always have to repent when we miss it. And this coming from someone that KNOWS how His Father sees him.. For He is the one that when all I saw 24/7 the sin I do.. He asked what is righteousness? Its right standing with God. He asked..how do you get righteousness? By believing in Jesus.

For me.. to focus on sin.. I am focused on self not Him. The closer you get to Him.. you don't sin more.. you sin less.

Christians that simply focus on righteousness would not provide the occasion to be tempted to sin. Your analysis is right on target. Why talk about sin? I would surmise that most people know what sin is but perhaps the knowledge or righteousness is lacking.

What about future sins?

I have a post on here called "Let's Talk About Sin" where I looked at every sin word in the New Testament and had something to say about it. Only most of it is at that post because of the word limit required in posting here.

You are indeed a "broken record" stuck on how Righteous you think you are. And I completely understand by all definitions to what Paul has claimed, the outcome should conclude to Believers being sinless. But even if you are truly saved, you are still human. Your Reasoning is as sound as a student who just learned Elementary Mathematics and claim they understand finite Quantum Physics, which consists of a correlation of Calculus, some formations of Trigonometry, and basic Geometry.

If you have offended a single person after being Saved, You have sinned grievously!

If you have had sexual thoughts about any woman after being saved, You have Fornicated!

If you have ever claimed You have not sinned since being Saved, YOU LIED!

You need to get a grip on Reality because Reality has no awareness within You!

Yes he was talking to the church, read the entire book of 1st john where was he when he said this? who were mostly there when he referenced this? He would not say if anyone claims to be without sin then the truth is not him to unbelievers because the truth was never in them to begin with so claiming to have no sin and thus the truth is not in them would be pointless because it is already known the truth is not in them.

You can claim to have no sin but that in itself is a sin, Yes we are made free in being born again we are not bound by the chains of sin and not to serve sin however Jesus said we would recieve a helper and one thing the spirit does is convict us when we sin.
If we claim to be without sin then when he does convict us we ignore him and maybe this isn't the case for you but my sin keeps me humble it makes me all the more grateful for what Jesus did for me. We go before him as humble servents we come to him with humble hearts knowing we are not worthy we come in rags and dirt because this is the image of one who is humble one who knows their weakness knows their need for him and yet beneath the rags and dirt is disguised a pure and holy king and queen.

We are to have a repentant heart but there is no repentance if we think there is no need for it is there?

well sin is much deeper than this. And can not commit any of these so called sins and still be a sinner

the pharisees were considered law keepers. Yet they were called many names, because they looked on the outside not on the inside

you can obey a command yet still sin while being obedient. This is where I think people fail to understand what true sin is

We should yes, but at same token things happen in our lives that cause us to go through valleys. We must never think we arrived
