Do we? Then why do we still sin?![]()
Sounds pretty good.Salvation is the “done deal” … it is the gift of God received at the time we are born again.
Maturing is the “process” whereby we go from newborn babes, desiring the sincere milk of the word (1 Peter 2:2) to no longer children tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine (Eph 4:14) … to full age wherein we have our senses exercised to discern both good and evil (Heb 5:14).
In this lifetime with these bodies, we will never be fully mature to the point where we are clothed with our house which is from heaven (2 Cor 5:2).
What we have in this lifetime is the earnest of the Spirit (2 Cor 5:5) … a token, a small portion of what we will be in new heaven new earth. And this earnest of the Spirit is held in our earthen vessel that the excellency of the power may be of God and not of us (2 Cor 4:7).
And all of this "maturing" takes place as the Father works within us ... removing from us those things which are not beneficial to us and which hinder us in our relationship with Him (and which we sometimes hold on to because it is difficult for us to die to self ... jmho on the matter).
For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. (Galatians 5:17)
Augustine did not just pull these concepts out of thin air.
put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires (Ephesians 4:22)That which is born of the flesh is flesh(John 3:6)The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. (1 Corinthians 2:14)
1 John 3:9
Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin, for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
These scriptures refer to the sins of the body, the flesh, not an ethereal nature. The last one has to do with the mind that understands or not.But none of it speaks of an inborn sin nature we cannot help. Augustine pulled it out of thin air as he struggled with a very sordid past. His explanation was it was a sin nature he was born with and couldn’t help instead of admitting he chose willingly every sordid act.
Here is what God tells us Scripture:Paul never used the term "sin nature" because the concept had not been invented. We can have a sinful nature because of sinning. But we are not born with a sin nature as the theology teaches and Paul did not say we were. We can examine in detail Pauls writing of Adam.
i really get the feeling there are an awful lot of preachers/teachers out there who are so afraid that the actual gospel will be used as license to sin, that they preach an edited and perverted gospel instead.
to me this is lack of faith. they don't believe God will actually work in a person's heart; they make it all about fear and self-will because they don't think love and the power of God are sufficient to motivate and to redeem.
that one got a chuckle out of me ...people would like to have full bellies without the inconvenience of taking food.
We become a new creation in Christ at the time we are born again.Because you have not surrendered completely to God
You need to give up your will and accept God's will
You will then become a new creation
The "will to sin" does not stop in this lifetime. The "will to sin" becomes less and less effective as we learn to overcome (not take the bait).Relic said:and your will
to sin stops. then you will be a new creation and
God will be in you and you in God.
why are you sitting there saying you can have the conclusion of an argument without the basis for it?
I have a basis (the Bible - used without corruption).
You indicated you would delete chapters 6 & 7.
Still no sin nature so ok.Here is what God tells us Scripture:
Adam/Eve were created in the image and likeness of God:
Genesis 1:
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness ...
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
On Day 6, God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good (Gen 1:31). And that included Adam and Eve, who were created in the image and likeness of God.
Adam's descendants, however, were begotten in the image/likeness of Adam after Adam sinned:
Genesis 5:3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image ...
In Gen 6:5 we are told God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Such a fall from the very good of Gen 1:31.
Each succeeding generation is begotten after the image/likeness of the generation before. I was begotten in the image/likeness of my father and mother.
When we are born again, God seals and gives us the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts (2 Cor 1:22). This earnest of the Spirit in our hearts is what allows us to live the new life in the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts is referred to as the "new man".
We are instructed in Scripture to "put off the old man" (the image/likeness of our father/mother) and "put on the new man" which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness (Eph 4:24) and which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him (Col 3:10).
Just my understanding of the issue ...
The Spirit Is not the same as the flesh. So if my anger gets the best of me and I blurt stupidities out that offend others, that is not sinning because I have been saved and therefore cannot sin?
Or
Are you proposing the license to Sin because once saved always saved Theory?
The Spirit Is not the same as the flesh.
Paul wrote
Romans 7:20-23
king James Version
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

The pharisees were purifying the outward man but they were not clean Inside (talking about their minds)
and they could not make the Inside clean In their own strength, only GOD In CHRIST could make the Inside clean
Those who believe In the WORD of GOD have been made clean and are now just before GOD In the Spirit and so when they sin In their bodies GOD Is not looking at the flesh mind but nevertheless the person will and should present their bodies a living sacrifice and Renew their minds.
Paul takes care of the "license to sin" issue in the first 2 verses of Rom 6 ... Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid — very emphatic NO!!!i really get the feeling there are an awful lot of preachers/teachers out there who are so afraid that the actual gospel will be used as license to sin, that they preach an edited and perverted gospel instead.
to me this is lack of faith. they don't believe God will actually work in a person's heart; they make it all about fear and self-will because they don't think love and the power of God are sufficient to motivate and to redeem.
14We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do, I do not do. But what I hate, I do. 16And if I do what I do not want to do, I admit that the law is good. 17In that case, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
18I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh; for I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19For I do not do the good I want to do. Instead, I keep on doing the evil I do not want to do. 20And if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
21So this is the principle I have discovered: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22For in my inner being I delight in God’s law. 23But I see another law at work in my body, warring against the law of my mind and holding me captive to the law of sin that dwells within me.b
24What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, with my mind I serve the law of God, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
Romans 7
I'm going to stick with what Paul states. No one is sinless on the earth, Christian or not. We have a will and we have choices to make.
Further, John states you are liar if you think you have no sin or do not sin. Now why would he say that if a Christian does not ever sin or thinks they have somehow been perfected in the flesh?
We are going to be given new bodies and these old bodies are going to be done away with. And for the record, I am not making an argument for continuing in sin or practicing sin or sinning on purpose with the thought you just ask forgiveness after the fact. I am, however, making an argument for what scripture actually states and not some unbiblical teaching that states we are perfected in our flesh because we most certainly are not.
You cannot apply spiritual principals to something that is dead.
