But he didn't actually die until he gave up his spirit and I believe he could have kept his spirit as long as he wanted to. He could have healed his body just like he healed all the other people whose body was failing them.
You need to look at Luke's account:
Luke 23:46 Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!" And after he said this he breathed his last.
It was finished- his suffering ended with God taking his spirit.
I've been thinking and I do see where you're coming from.. But, if I strike you with an axe with intent to kill you and walk away leaving you on the floor and you die a day later, did I kill you or did you give up because the infliction was too heavy?
Not sure if this analogy could be used in the same context?

I think he laid down His life to the last breath... and obeyed the Father's will by doing so.
"You would have no power [exousia] over me if it were not given to you from above" (19:11).
“No one taketh it [My life] from me, but I lay it down of myself.”
Even though the Jews had Jesus killed they were still culpable. He still gave his life freely.
John 10:17 This is why the Father loves me - because I lay down my life, so that I may take it back again.
John 10:18 No one takes it away from me, but I lay it down of my own free will. I have the authority to lay it down, and I have the authority to take it back again. This commandment I received from my Father."
Yes, He could of, He was even mocked to come down and save Himself to prove Himself but WE know know that He did His Father's will.
Yes, he could have healed His body, but then we would still be in our sins and eternally lost. He suffered a literal physical death, which He allowed, ergo, no man takes my life from me. By the way, it was necessary for the Lord to suffer a physical literal death, because the reward for sin is death. But because He himself had no sin He therefore did not owe the debt. By making the payment, He represented us as a human being and His payment is credited to everyone who would have faith in Him, so that though we die, yet shall we live. Since the payment has already been made, then those who believe no longer owe that debt, because it has already been satisfied by the Lord.
Well at some point, whether said it or not, the result was going to be the death of His body. He just knew that His body was at its end and gave up His spirit.
I understand that he could have healed himself. However, if had done that, then there would be salvation and we would all be in our sins. Do you understand the significance to this? To die for the sins of many was His purpose. He even told His disciples three different times that he was going to suffer at the hands of men and be lifted up. So He was determined to make that payment on our behalf. It had to be a literal physical death in order to satisfy the consequences of our sins. Jesus took upon himself the payment that we deserve. God's wrath was satisfied by Christ, so that God's wrath no longer rests upon the believer. Those who believe have been reconciled to God through faith in Christ.

yes he suffered and was crucified but he actually laid down his own life nobody took it from him.
No! Eventually, regardless of whether the Lord gave up His spirit or not, His body was failing. He would have died whether He gave up His spirit or not, because His body would have failed because all that He had suffered. He had a real human body that functions just like ours. In other words, Jesus couldn't have remained upon the cross as long as He wanted to, but was dependent upon how much longer His body would continue to function. He knew His body was at its end and gave up His spirit.
Yes, you are correct and that because He allowed them to kill Him. He could have stopped the whole process of being beaten and crucified but He gave His life freely so that those would believe in Him would be saved.
When He says, "I lay down my life freely. No man takes it from me," it means that He allowed himself to be killed. It was His purpose to pay the penalty for our sins, so that we would be free of the penalty. But it was a literal physical death that Jesus experienced, which He allowed.
I don't think so...He could have stayed in his body as long as he wanted but he knew it would be best to surrender to the weakness of his body and therefore it was time to surrender his spirit.
Well, let me ask you this, if you were the one who had been beaten with the flagellum and nailed to the cross, do you think that you could remain there as long as you wanted to? In addition, were the two men who were crucified next to Jesus able to remain alive as long as they wanted to? The answer is 'no' to all. That said, Jesus had a real, human body just like we do. No man took his life, but He gave it freely, experiencing the real death of the body. It was His purpose to suffer death and necessary for us in order to be free of the consequences of sin.
Jesus body was shutting down. His organs were failing, just like any human body would. When He knew that His body was at it end, He gave up His spirit.
We aren't that far apart, however, where we differ is how we define death. I define death once the spirit has left the body and for Jesus he didn't die until he gave up his spirit then he died. For most human death their spirit is taken from them by the angels but in Jesus case he gave it up himself and yielded to human death of his body.
I don't understand the question.
If you jump in front of someone so they don't get shot you're still being killed.
Jesus laid down his life so that we may live. So he was still killed. Maybe his choices were limited? It certainly wasn't what he wanted as far as the pain. But to him and the father it was worth the pain and was his desire. That's why he's a savior.

Gave up His Spirit ...... means He died...He took His last breath.
It is used in other places in the Bible.
