I don’t have time for these long winded posts; especially when they appear to be cut and paste jobs.

It's even worse when it's a wall of text with no spacing or carriage returns to break it up - I never read that kind of post.

Yes, some type of spacing helps a lot of people. If I feel drawn to read it I will, but lately I've been in a habit of scrolling down, reading others comments to gauge if the discussion is stimulating and then referring back to the OP if it's block text or strange formatting.

My posts are long(ish) but at least I put some sort of spacing.


I did have a thought though on a few occasions when what I post is a tad "circumlocutionary". Read it aloud. Even on some of my longest posts, they rarely are over 5 minutes when read as I would speak it. 5 minutes isn't very long to listen to someone or to talk for me. In fact 30 minutes would be considered pretty short and to the point for me ha.

Any sermon transcribed or even the opening to a bible study could easily be 5-15 minutes reading the text. So I'm willing to factor that in to my attention span.

I've at least learned to trim a bit and wait until further interaction occurs before "post monologuing" unless I only have one thing to say that I can see.

I have been known to reformat such posts for the OP, and re-post them to facilitate reading for other members :)

Oh does using an ellipsis count in bulk text...there are times when I feel as though "I may" overuse this interesting little series of dots that were not ever taught to me in school that I can recall ;)

I'll admit I am a tad lazy about using them instead of paragraphs and actually smoothly jumping to the next thought trail...as if I expect you to just follow my train of thought as though you were me.


I tried to copy how I use them...but I think I failed. Sometimes I use it as a silence gap and not so much what they are supposedly for since there isn't a "takes pause" punctuation that is used in general conversation.

Edit: apparently the "em dash" and "ellipsis" can be used for pause much like colon, comma, and semi colons can. The more you know...

Good for a *trails off* punctuation mark?

Generally, I just ignore them, especially if it is a solid wall of text not broken into paragraphs. I will also usually dismiss a post written with poor grammar and punctuation. A lot also depends on the OP. If it is a topic that interest I may do like you do and skim through to ascertain the high points, if any.

Many people who do not have a good grasp on their subject matter need more words to try to explain what they know little about.
