@Blain sorry to be offtopic but you mentioned you suffered diabetes can you explain what it is cos I dont understand how that might keep you from doing things, like is it really bad?

My grandma suffered from diabetes and a grand uncle has it from what I know you they just needed to take a regular med and watch what they ate, it didnt mean they werent able to do anything mentally or lead their own lives. I remember workmate also suffered from it but it just meant if anything happened like he fainted or anything we would know what to do, it didnt mean he couldnt work. (this was in a library). Im sure a neigbhour also had it and he worked as a gardener, so, its not like thing that would stop you doing work, depending on the type of work you are engaged in.

I am not sure how people get it though all I know its got something to do with blood sugar and how your body somehow cant make insulin so it has to get from somewhere else. But not eating junk food shouldnt be a hardship I mean lots of people dont eat sugary food cos its actually really bad for you.

I've been a fan of subterranean homes for decades both from a security and efficiency standpoint. Utility costs to heat and cool are minimal because dirt is a wonderful insulator and the ground temperature below 6 ft maintain around 55f year round. The drawback is that construction costs are extremely high.

not if theres already a cave there like coober pedy in australia or cappodocia in Greece. I think theres also some adobe places in the south western states of america. Or maybe Utah.

I know homes arent affordable for many of us (hence DREAM) but I wonder if any of us can say they might dream of living in an apartment, which were originally built so people could live APART from each other until they could afford their own home....

but dream apartment doesnt have the same ring to it. I know its meant to be a trendy thing and cool to live apart from your folks but peoole dont really go for it unlesss its necessary, for work or they get divorced or they are studying I guess. Or retiring maybe and need care of others around them. Or its part of a govt housing project.

Well my diebetes is not so much the issue as the mental capability. I have brain damage in the same spot twice, one was underdeveloped from my original parents starving me abusing me and drugging me the second was from the cancer so I am mentally unable to fully take care of myself and I often times will forget to take my shots or make sure my diebetes is not out of control.
If there was a home for people like me who are not mentally ill or elderly but just need help in daily living and I could actually afford it I would love to move there it sounds like the perfect place for me it is just so not fair XD

Actually I love aparments especially the upper floor ones I can easily sleep on the floor on those. I have always dreamed of having my own place a simple but important thing to me but since I only get 740 a month here in okc apartments are not an option for me plus I am unable to drive I have to walk everywhere.

I could do a roomate but there comes complications with that

hmm I am sure there are assisted independent living situations around if you know where to look, especially for anyone has a disability but you may need to arrange finances through something like a trust. Unfortunately if we dont have family support its much harder.

Some people live in halfway homes where there is either a nurse on site or on call or the landlord has special facilities for those who are disabled or need extra help. But this would be kind of like flatting or renting again. It wouldnt be your own home. I think home ownership is way out of reach for most people. You would need at least two or three incomes to be able to afford a basic home these days, unless you go somewhere the cost of living is really cheap.

most apartments you need to belong to a body corporate and they can really restrict what you are allowed to do even if you own your bit.

for most people who rent they need to take what they can get for what they can afford.

yea state houses here are the same, only a handful now, extremely long wait lists, and the cheapest ones are in out of the way places where its hard to find jobs. Back in the 1950s because of the war there was a housing shortage so here the NZ govt actually built many good solid state houses for baby boomers to live in. They had generous sections and all the mod cons. Jobs were also stable and secure. Govt paid benefits to help people own their own homes. And People never thought that they would be made redundant!!

Now there is a housing shortage again but its actually not the number of houses but the rise in rents and living costs and rates and unstable economy that make it so hard to afford your own home.

however nothing is stopping us from dreaming about it as promised in scripture. When the Israelites entered their promised land...all the houses were already there they didnt have o build them from scratch as God was going to drive out the Caanaanites with hornets...! And then each tribe was alloted their own part of the land they did not have to pay any rent at all. They didnt even have to buy the land like everyone has to now, it was to be inherited. And they were told not to sell it...but what do you see nowadays ppl selling land right and left.

Jesus says in my Fathers house there are many mansions, He goes there to prepare a place for us. so dream away. The meek are going to inherit the earth.

I'd be like no way, Im not leaving! Take your billions bucks somehwhere else lol.

In the newspaper they have a property section where people list all the properties they have for sale, and aometimes their are articles about the houses they are selling...usually only the really expensive ones feature and its always interesting the reasons the owners give for selling their homes. Its usually because 1) they built. really grand house and its way too big for them to live in 2) they already had another house they live in or they are moving overseas cos they are already so wealthy

its never ....we have to sell our house cos we cant afford to eat. Or we have to sell our house cos we lost our jobs. or someone died in it and its now haunted....

I wonder about the people who owned grand homes in the past like Dontown Abbey or Larnach castle how they managed to keep it running even if all their servants got laid off. Basically you have to run your home as a tourist attraction or bnb to make ends meet....or lease it out for people to film their tv dramas in lol.

Yeah I remember that song, I bet places like that have a lot of historical background so if they had to do that to make ends meet it would help if they found out if it did or not.
plus if they ever did have to sell it then it would be worth a fortune

what happens to those old homes they often get put into a trust, like a historic places trust and become like living museums. Also happens with gardens.

It takes a lot to maintain a place but if people like visiting it makes it worthwhile. Then everyone can enjoy it...although you would probably lose most of your privacy.

I would love to see places like that especially the gardens. But you know I also would like to live on an island although that may be my visit to the Caribian Islands talking lol but it was my first time to see and be in the ocean I saw both nemo and droy underwater it was amazing and aty night the ocean and the night sky is literally like God himself painted a picture and you just stare and marvel for hours

well Island life is pretty special but you do need the right balance for people to live there for it to be paradise otherwise it will end up like Lord of the Flies...

You need to be happy eating whats there and relaxing and doing not much...some people are way too highly strung for that kind of lifestyle, and feel the need to always have more than what theyve already got. Hence the downfall/crash of civilisations the world over....

There is this show on Netflix called outer banks I am loving. It is about a kid who lives on an island with his friends but his dad has been missing for nine months and he and his buddies find a sunken ship after a massive storm to find clues that his dad was chasing a massive historical treasure.

I have to admit the chill life of the island made me jealous XD

how many bedrooms, bathrooms, square foot, will it be brick, timber, rammed earth...? What else would it have? Location? Garden? entertaining areas? guest accomodation? spa or swimming pool?

I could live anywhere, but my dream home would have a big beautiful bathroom with a super relaxing bathtub. 🙂

I have a feeling you would be in to much bliss to notice any neighbors around you lol.
I can imagine just soaking in a nice soothing bubble bath just soaking and reading or sipping some tea listening to music and likely eventually falling asleep. Let me know when I am getting close to your dream scenario XD

So very true! Just don't want any neighbors or noise to ruin it. I'm being proactive.
