Stone of Worship

by HWatts

Men build statues of stone,
sculpted by hand,
chiseled with a slow
tink… tink… tink.
Chipping, arm raised high,
an image slowly emerges.
He finishes his masterwork,
places it on a stand,
Such beauty in marble.
He has a gift, they say.
So they worship the stone,
though it does not see;
sing to their idol,
though it cannot hear.

Clever men - they take of nature,
then deem it holy;
they teach their children well.
The generations pile up knowledge;
they name the stone,
this part is Copper,
this part Gold,
piling it up name by name.
Learning new properties,
putting them together
now, in new ways.

They name their work Science,
and prove their are no gods.
They teach the children well.
God has died, God is dead.
Killed by ore pulled from dirt,
by the hand of men
so wise in their ignorance.
Science becomes their religion,
it is the work of their hands,
but they can't see it.
false are their words,
but they can't hear it.
Believing in their own lies.

Creation, trying to learn itself,
that is their Science;
having but scratched the surface,
they deem themselves wise,
while God from his Holy Temple
laughs at their lack of knowledge.
He is God. He spoke these laws,
and they appeared.
The Scientist tells his child
Np - that is not the way.
The world came abut in this way:
First was nothing.
But nothing suddenly exploded,
and it caused a really big bang.
A bang so big,
the world popped into existence.
That was their genesis.

I tell my son,
"Coincidentally, my son,
the big bang came at the word of God."
I tell him that evolution is a theory.
He laughs. His teacher told him different.
Later, he understands -
when he opens his eyes
like a puppy.
"Welcome, my son,
to the world our God has made,
to the day that he has given;
rejoice, and be glad in it."

Thank you so much; glad you liked it, and yes, you may.

I noticed a "their" which should be "there" (particularly embarrassing) and an "abut" that should be "about." I hate not being able to edit later.

Yeah me too. I am not fond of that but understand its necessity. I'll fix the errors in the paid forward...

Frankly, I don't understand the necessity, and I mean that literally, not sarcastically. Perhaps it is too expensive, or complex - or maybe the concern is more socially-influenced, as in a "lively discussion." I simply don't know.

I do know that one site I enjoy is a free hobby site, but subscribers get to do things like edit anytime, delete threads you start, delete your own posts, edit titles of threads you start, have access to subscriber-only forums... I've subscribed for more than a decade - so I'm a big spender at $25/yr. lol It's a no-brainer. (If people get too lively, they get suspended, too many times they get booted.)

So I looked for a possible subscriber button or thread or something here to see if that kind of feature were available, but failed to find it if there were.

Let me try and give my take as I have struggled with the 5 min edit, time and time again...

Yes...I can't count the times I have ughed when reading what I wrote back to myself. Yup, I find errors and it is too late to delete or to fix. I tend to be a perfectionist so I go into a bit of an anxiety attack < exaggeration but still...

Here is the thing, if that was an option, then it could cause all kinds of problems in the management of disputes that ppl report here. Or... what if someone wanted to respond to what you said, then went about their business, later to find... the original post which was responded to was changed or is deleted? It would make the discussion even more confusing and challenging to participate in.

There are more reasons why the administrators have made this choice here, I am sure. I reckon one of their strategies in making their different choices is done through trial and error. In other words, they have found the needs to make a time limit, outweigh our desire to fix edit errors.

You know, I am a find a silver lining kind a person, good or bad. I have found that the take away that is good is that it helps me to be super mindful of the editing before I post. With that said, I can not count the times, as I have already mentioned, lol, that I inevitably make at least one silly mistake or typo. We are our own worst critics. I hadn't noticed your errors until you mentioned them.

All in all, you did excellent work. God, the perfect One, used you this morning.

Okay, friends, excuse my Techtardedness here, please:

I wrote a poem a little while ago - I thought in this forum - and I can't find it anywhere. Perhaps it was excluded for some reason, but that is not why I write here. I failed to save it myself, just wrote it in the window, and I was hoping to find a way to retrieve a copy. Now this is where my tech-challenged dinosaur ways show. I tried to PM CharliRenee, as I saw the Staff Member tag to ask about the poem, "How Long? O Israel! How long?" That's how I found a partial answer to questions I posed above.

Forgive me for introducing these site questions in this forum, please.

What a thoughtful reply. Thank you very much. We keep posting as the other also does and we can't keep up! I feel dizzy!

But by now you have read my last post and may already be responding with "I hope you can recall your poem," or, if it is my lucky day, "I'll email you a copy, sorry we couldn't use it." Either way, thank you very much.
