We are told to "test every spirit" if it is from God, and not believe everything we hear.
We also test by observing the fruits of a man to know if they are of God.
So we line their sayings with the Scripture, and observe their fruits. Good tree can't give bad fruit, and vice versa.
Also, when a true prophet says something, there are three purposes: to exhort, encourage, and comfort, and these three will be in balance according to the spiritual condition of the sheep. You will notice in the books of prophets how prophets at times encourage and give hope, at times admonish, as needed, because they know the spiritual needs of Israel, they were God appointed elders to that congregation, maybe without official titles and eating locusts and being poor and bare, but elders nonetheless, who prayed for these people. They also never admonished only to drive people into despair, or encouraged only to make people lose their grip, or comforted only, leading people into licentiousness - the narrow middle way of God is well balanced and perfect.
God still speaks to His people to this day, but what is said will never contradict with what the Bible teaches.
We also stumbled into that Netflix movie the other day. Husband and I thought it was really laughable, that people really believed this was some "lamb of God".
Bottom line, if you examine things any before you believe them, it's not really easy to confuse Jesus or a man of God with a crook with 50 limos and mansions, or confuse Jesus with a delusional human who abuses people to draw them into a commune in order to have sex with everyone.
