This is a topic I am curious about.

Some Christians seem to think that the eternal reward of believers is heaven.

Other Christians are convicted that the eternal reward of believers is the New Heavens/New Earth.

Revelation 21-22 is plain to me. God will dwell with his children on the New Earth, which is a glorified version of the Garden of Eden. It ill be more like a Garden-City, though. The unrighteous will not be able to interfere with the righteous, and are said to be "outside the city".

However, there is an intermediate state between death and the resurrection, where the dead are in the presence of God and Christ in heaven.

Here's the question: which view is the position that you hold personally?

And, if you are convicted that the eternal state is the New Earth (like myself), why do you think some Christians believe that the eternal state is in heaven?

The caricature that many cultists project is that Christians believe they are going to heaven. The cultists do not understand that well-educated Christians believe that the earth will be a glorified abode of God, and the righteous will dwell on this earth, as glorified humans.

But, the problem is that some Christians actually do believe in the "going to heaven" bit. And, in a way, it is true because the intermediate state involves a temporary residence in heaven as a disembodied spirit, prior to the resurrection.

By the way, I do not hold the view of the Millennium that premillennial people hold. I do not believe that the Millennium is a period between Christ's return and the eternal state, where non-glorified humans continue to exist, and death continues to reign. I believe death is defeated at the resurrection, and the eternal state begins at Christ's return.

I do not expect others to hold an amillennial view, but I am simply clarifying my position.

This really does not affect the conversation, though. My real interest is whether Christians hold the view of "going to heaven" as the eternal state, or whether they realize that the eternal state involves being a glorified person on a glorified Earth enjoying the presence of God. And, if you are familiar with Christians who hold the first belief, why do some Christians hold this view? Is it merely because they aren't well-schooled yet?

By the way, this book, God Dwells Among Us, by GK Beale, is excellent on this topic:

https://smile.amazon.com/God-Dwells...d_r=7EGCH4JZ58CABCYQCVMD&psc=1&qid=1583708473

It shows that a basic theme of Scripture is God dwelling with his people on Earth. This was the initial state in the Garden of Eden, before the Fall. It is also the meaning of the Tabernacle and Temple, the city of Jerusalem, the body of Christ, and the New Heavens and New Earth.

Being in God's blessing-presence is the desire and reality of the believer.

Those who are rejected are cast out of his blessing-presence.

We see this with Adam and Eve. We see this with those with health and physical defects and uncleanness in the Israelite camp and the city of Jerusalem. We see this with the unrepentant evil people in the New Heavens and New Earth (Revelation 21, 22).

By the way, I do not think that those who had health or physical defects or were unclean ceremonially were lost necessarily, in a salvation sense. Neither do I think Adam and Eve were lost necessarily. These states were typological of being lost in a spiritual sense, though, like those who will not be in the New Heavens and New Earth.

The book above also displays many of the shadows and types between the Garden of Eden, Jerusalem, Christ's body, and the New Heavens and New Earth. It's an excellent book.

1. That is NOT a problem, since the eternal home of believers is in Heaven, and their eternal inheritance is also in Heaven. Scripture is perfectly clear.

2. Almost all Christians -- apart from cultists -- believe that they will go to Heaven.

3. The New Earth will be for redeemed and restored Israel and the saved nations surrounding it.

New heaven, new earth and a new Jerusalem will be the eternal landscape. Jews look for an earthly kingdom while the gentile church loos for a heavenly kingdom. Christians look to dwell in the presence of Christ forever. I think Christians will walk the streets of gold and pass between heaven, earth and Jerusalem as it pleases us and the Lord.

I will dwell....in Hell. 😔
Why do you say that? Do you not know about the free gift of eternal life that God has made available to you - if you will only believe [in] Him, accept His free gift, and follow Him?

As for this claim that only a portion of the redeemed will dwell on earth, and the rest in heaven, I think the person needs to read Revelation 21-22.

I believe their theology is really not biblical but is a product of some traditional dispensationalists, who claim that there is a heavenly kingdom, occupied by the church, and an earthly kingdom, occupied by Israel.

See this as well.

https://www.gotquestions.org/new-heavens-earth.html

However, his claim is an interesting one, because it confirms my suspicion that dispensationalists are, at least partially, responsible for the confusion surrounding this issue. Apparently there are progressive dispensationalists who believe all the people of God will dwell in the New Heavens and New Earth, there are other traditional dispensationalists who deny this.

It is increasingly my conviction that dispensationalists are behind much of the doctrinal error of the contemporary evangelical church.

1Co_2:9 (KJV) But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

We cannot better this teaching.
