For me it is more about where I am, rather than when, if that makes sense. As a teen we were told to find something, that when we see it, we think of God. We were told to stop what we were doing and say "I'm here Lord". It took your from thinking about him to being present with him. For me I picked clouds. I can be wrapped up in my day but when I go outside and see the clouds it almost always takes me into his presence.
The seashore (seriously).

Is it just me or do you also find your 'closest' times with the Lord is at night? I find during the day, it is very difficult for my heart and mind to 'draw near' to the Lord in communion. I know it shouldn't matter but it seems the way it works out...with me anyways.
Thoughts?
Twilight for me. I love sunrises and sunsets. I love the magnificent color schemes and tranquility that comes with the morning and evening sky.

It’s like God’s fingertips are on display and I thank Him for sharing His blessings of grandeur on a daily basis.

And when it’s raining, I thank God as well as I wonder if the raindrops falling on me are the actual drops of water from the Jordan River that washed over Jesus during His baptism.

For me it is in the morning . I can’t explain why
Me too. I do most of my prayer and bible reading/study in the morning before my day starts.

Psalm 5:3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

The Bible teach us that God wants our first fruits so it just might be that early in morning should be God's time :) but each to his own
Ha Ha and the Hebrew day started in the evening...'evening and morning...one day' :)

Does if have to do with the light that shines through the darkness?
I was thinking more like...
Genesis 3:8 KJV
[8] And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.

That may have been the original communion time.

Wheter a day begins at sunset on a lunar calendar or at midnight on the solar, the morning is always the morning.

Morning time for me.

Something to do with the attacks that come with night time and the new hope that comes in the morning.

You are correct. It shouldn't matter but it does. The world is full of noise and distractions.

For me it's about 2-4am lots of stuff going on; some call it the witching hour. Not hardly ever of my choosing can't explain it. But the results are epic!?!?!

And the winner is....

(Luk 6:12) And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

(Mar 1:35) And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

...There will be no winners :( LOL

I've always been a night person. Since I was a baby. I would stay up late, sleep till 9 am as a newborn. My mom said the biggest shock of her life was when my brother was born, and he would get up at 6 am for his feeding.

Growing up, I didn't need a lot of sleep. I would read till the early hours of the morning. I used to knit things for money, and I would do that in the dark. I also loved the night, because I could get all the American AM stations on my old tube radio, that I could not get in the day. A good bounce could get me Detroit, or LA. (Very important to this future musician, lost in northern Canada)

The best job for my body rhythms was being a professional bar musician. I would finish at one or two, go to sleep around 4 or 5 am, then get up at noon. My life wasn't forced, just natural.

When God saved me, I had to be up early for church, (played on the worship team!) but, I was still reading my Bible and praying late at night. (Although God, with his sense of humour, did have me getting up for 4 and 5 am hockey and figure skating practices! But I would just drive home, sleep, until the next one had to go!) I did talk to God in the day, and he would talk to me. But my devotions were at night. It was a rich time. But then I kept reading in the Bible how the best time to worship God was in the morning. I tried and it was a useless time. I finally went back to what was working, nightly devotions.

Since I got diagnosed with heart disease, my circadian rhythms have changed. I am much more tired. I've improved a bit on meds, but late night is not a good time. So, now, I spend more time with God in the early afternoon. Although if I am out, I can change that to early evening. It was hard to give up a lifetime of habit, but God meets us where we are - morning, noon or night.

I like to share with you all what I have come to learn about the Lord. It may sound off the wall but please here me out.
Jesus gave himself many titles to relate to us .,...friend, brother, helper, counselor, ECT.
Sadly some of us only reference him as Lord. Therefore they fellowship with him only as Lord.
What I have discovered is that if you truly believe he lives and is right by your side always then treat him as such.
My routine is greeting the Lord in the morning giving him the day to do as he wills, favorite praise songs playing I discuss what plans I have, concerns I have, but ask if he has plans for me. I take him to work with me and find myself having conversations with him on many levels. In short it's just like going about the day with your best friend right with you. You laugh, joke, what ever.
IMO fellowship comes in many ways. Treating the Lord as if he were there in the flesh is exactly what he wants.
Abraham was called the friend of God. Do you think that all of the dialogue that transpired between God and him was in prayer or was it a friendship that kindled out of fellowship?
Definitely not off the wall. You are correct in treating the Lord as if He were there in the flesh. This is an example worth emulating.

The best time when people draw nearer to God would seem like the time that they are the most relaxed mentally and not so much on their mind and they feel the best mentally.

Even people that are hypocrites where God is not manifesting Himself to them they could have a placebo affect and believe they are drawing nearer to God because of their mental condition of feeling good mentally.

Like the occult and people in to nature worship what do they do but they meditate and try to lift up their mental well being.

Like people that do drugs what are they trying to do but they try to lift up their mental well being.

Because it is all about how people feel mentally that affects them more than anything else.

If people feel bad physically it does not affect them that there is something wrong other then a physical ailment, but if they feel bad mentally then something is wrong and they want to know why, and try to elevate their mental state and feel good.

Which can throw off some people to believe they are right with God and have a relationship with Him for they feel good mentally and attribute that to God working in their life but they are in reality a hypocrite which the Bible says they deny the power thereof to be able to receive peace, love, and joy, so it is coming from their mind fleshy and not the Spirit.

But regardless of hypocrite or not a person that is not a hypocrite will feel that they are drawing nearer to God when they feel their mental best and when they are the most mentally relaxed and the least worried about things and their mind not thinking so much.

A lot of people at night would be when they are winding down from the day and it is quieter and calmer and not so much on their mind.

But just because people feel better mentally does not mean God is working in their life for the flesh still has natural well being and for the hypocrite they can still feel they draw nearer to God from their mental state alone which the belief they have a relationship with God can elevate their mental state but in reality they really do not have a relationship with God.

So if people say they feel they draw nearer to God in the morning or in the afternoon or in the night does not make sense for it would be at all times if not a hypocrite and if not a hypocrite and at a certain time then it is coming from their mind when they feel the best mentally and they are the ones hindering being closer to God by them relying on their mental state of how they feel rather than the fact of the relationship itself which nothing should hinder that.

Which seems like they limit God by them relying that they have to feel mentally on top of the world before they believe they draw nearer to God.

But Paul said he draws nearer to God and the power of Christ rests upon him when he is afflicted not when he is feeling his best mentally and no affliction.

Many people have been wrong and thought something that was not true all because they felt good mentally like they say I have a good feeling about this but it did not work out like they thought.

A placebo affect where they think all is alright because of how they feel when all is not alright which they soon find out.

I feel good mentally so I know this woman will like me, boom, she does not.

I feel good mentally so I think I can jump over these obstacles with my bike, boom, you cannot and now you are in the hospital.

I feel good mentally so I think I will get the job, boom, you do not as if your good mental state will transfer over to the hiring place and affect their mind.

Too many people claiming Christ think they have a relationship with Christ going by their mental state and not by their actions of being Christlike.

I feel good mentally so I believe I have a relationship with Christ, boom, you may not.

Which the hypocrites do not want to find that out in the afterlife when they thought they had a relationship with God because they felt good mentally but did not.

But if not a hypocrite a person would draw nearer to God when they are at their mental best because they are less hindering themselves from drawing nearer to God by their crybabying, whining, worrying, and thinking about things that do not matter, and thinking more on God.
