Does anyone read theology books?
If so, which ones and who by.
Is there a particular favourite theologian or popular one? The Bible says the greeks seek wisdom and the jews seek a sign...I guess its still true to day with all the debate still going on about who God is and His nature, in this very forum and the Jews still clinging to their visible traditions.

Would you say that there are still people who dedicate their lives to an unknown God? Or they just dont know the Lord Jesus and still trying to figure out who God really is?

Theology books answer questions people have about God. Most of what I learned over the years came from a question I had. And a theology book that answered it. I study Reformed (Calvinistic) Theology although I'm more Baptist. The Reformed have the most precise answers but are possibly wrong on some issues the Baptists got right as I see it.

What question did you have about God? So it was Jean Calvin that answered it?

Couldnt you have prayed and asked God Himself or looked in the Bible? Like in Romans.

I recommend the book of Concord, the epitome. It's a theological explanation of the faith, I have it on my phone. It's an old document so it's kind of a bear to read. It reads like a lawyer wrote it in the 1400s. Which is kind of true.

That would seem to beg the same query as to when he comes on the last day ? Trusting God through his word or after the religious experiences of men as outward signs ? I think when he comes he will give faith to the last person on his list. And then the end will come all in the twinkling of the eye . .

For reading, I lean more towards dead people.. like the Puritans.
Outside of Holy Scripture, no one is going to lead you to the full truth. Only The Holy Spirit through divine revelation as you meditate in the Word. But, with that said, in my library as far contemporary Systematic Theology books: Wayne Grudem, Norman Geisler (both heavy books physically and in content).
John Frame - who is more reformed which i lean towards - has an Audio book you can get through in 50 hours of listening (via Audible)
He's pretty comprehensive and humble in opinion when it comes to the minors such as eschatology (end times), etc.

Who determines who is a theologian?
What I have learned over the years is that on any question of Scripture, you can find two opposite views that is put forth by men who are recognized as theologians.

Wouldnt their theology be of their time and place anyway so it would just all be relative.

Sound theology is timeless. You may find that some issues are limited to knowledge of the author's time, but those would be rare.

Has anyone read 'Layman's Answer' by EM. Blaiklock.

I'm just wondering about all the theology books we have in the church library if anyone actually still reads them. I look in the issue cards and it seems nobody borrows them.

Nobody has got evrything right othwrwise it would be scripture. I wouldnt place ANYONES writings above scripture.

nobodys saying its false but theology is just ones persons interpretation about God. It doesnt actually apply to every situation. Theology is just a lot of someones opinions and theories. And a theory is just that...a theory. Its not fact. Most theology seems to be someones speculation about the nature of God.

Scripture is true because its Gods word, and it doesnt need any thing extra added to it, or taken away from it.

Theology isn't personal opinion. “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.” 2 Peter 1:20 (KJV 1900)
